I’m curious, what makes this offer so amazing that it outweighs a seemingly great job? Please be careful making the jump. Landing on rocky soil when you came from greener pastures hurts.
I just went through this. If you decide to take the job, be honest and upfront about it to your current company. Show gratitude for your time there, thank them for the experience, and articulate how great the new opportunity it is, and how hard the decision was. Basically, be considerate and do everything you can to preserve the relationship
I'm in a similar position but for a different reason. Love my job but want to move out of the area (across the country). Hoping my SO finds one first so I can blame it on them.
Do you have to leave? Could you leverage this job offer into a promotion at your current company? Jobs you love are hard to come by.
I just ran into a similar situation. I talked to my manager before accepting and just laid it all out for her. Said “I have an offer that I do t think I can turn down, but I respect you and I love working here so I wanted to have a conversation about it before accepting.” They couldn’t match but have been extremely supportive of my leaving
I JUST went through this a few weeks ago. I wasn’t looking but a recruiter reached out and I’ve been told to “always take the interview” so I did. And to my surprise I loved the new agency SO much. When I got the offer I was so torn. Excited that I got it but also terrified to leave my current company (and amazing manager) bc I loved it so much. When I told my manager about the offer she asked if there was anything they could do and when I said no and she quickly shifted the conversation to show her support and excitement for me. It’ll be ok! They’ll understand. And as the word spreads just make sure you don’t burn bridges. Thank everyone for the opportunities they’ve given you and show how genuinely torn you are to be leaving such a great place but this is the right opportunity at the right time and you need to take it.
Thank you! And congrats on your new role!
Sometimes a toxic and highly politicized work environment could make life difficult as hell. Try to inquire about the corporate culture if you can before moving on and good luck.
Before you tell him or her the news, spit on their desk and call them a sunofabitch. Pause. Then do it again. At this point they will be glad to see you go. No sting at all.
Don’t just turn it down. Use it.
