Hi folks. Moved on 10/1 from Chicago to NYC. How will my capital gains be taxed in each state? Prorated ased on the % of total income in each state? Thank you

Big dilemma: I’ve been notified of year end bonus, but it hasn’t been paid yet. Likely will be paid this week. A long term ongoing project is about to be transitioned to me (I was not given the choice whether to take this on or not. We’re short on bodies and I am the most logical choice). I planned on exiting by the end of January. Do I keep my mouth shut and let the client be told I’m the new attorney in charge? Or let my boss know I’m not going to be sticking around? My stomach is in knots!

I’m a 5th year associate in big law. I’ve always kept partnership in mind as an option, but last year I spent some time thinking about the future of my career and think I may want to go in-house (although I haven’t completely ruled out partnership). What should I be focusing my time on in the next couple of years? For IH counsel who transitioned from big law, what are some things you wish you had done before leaving big law? And where should I look to get a feel for the types of jobs out there?

Does anyone have any experience with Clio Grow? Specifically; my firm is adding Grow (we already use Clio Manage). Documents/intakes need to be integrated/transferred over. Clio Grow has quoted a setup cost of $400, which included 2 intake forms and 3 documents. Trying to weigh the cost/benefit ratio; I can have my receptionist do it too for $10/hr. But wondering how difficult/intricate this whole process is and if it’s best left for Clio to handle for me.

Anyone here ever deal with litigation involving the appointment of a receivership for a corporation? I'm representing a company formed in Dec 2016, in which a minority shareholder is frustrated because she decided to back out of the company after investing money, and the company cannot afford to pay back her investment in full yet. She has hired an attorney to petition the court to appoint a receiver, and I just wanted to know if anyone here has ever fought against a receivership.

I found out recently that we knew when we filed a case that I was recently assigned that several of our clients’ claims are not viable. These clients probably have at least one cause of action that they might be able to prove but they can’t prove the “most valuable” one. Are there ethics issues here? If opposing party files MSJ, these folks are screwed. One atty said I need to report the person who filed the case to ethics board. Seems harsh tho.

Hi Guys, What’s your take on salary negotiation during this environment? I was laid off due to COVID in April. I just received a job offer with a much lower salary than I expected and my research indicates am being lowballed to the tune of at least $30k! I think the firm can do better because the practice area is thriving despite COVID! They’re in fact looking to hire more associates! Should I negotiate? I have been offered $115K in NYC\NJ! Am going into my third year of practice!
