What should I expect from my manager? I've stuck it out for a year now and all I'm ever told is to not make mistakes. Manager stated explicitly that he does not want to review or test my work. Any attempts at discussion of why I made a mistake are dismissed by him as me making excuses. I never get any positive feedback. I somehow manager to make it a few months without making any errors but I missed a small detail in a large project and my 1on1 went terribly because of it. Is this common?

What’s the consensus on tattoos in the insurance workplace? I’m in leadership and considering exploring my options due to recent personnel changes. I work remote and have arm sleeves, and any time I would be in-person I’d of course wear a long sleeve shirt to be professional, but worry about a cuff rolling up and tattoos being somewhat visible. Nothing is offensive by any means.

I have never seen anyone display as much grace as Barbara Walters when her co-anchor (Harry Reasoner I think) was so dismissive and rude to her; she just smiled and kept doing her job. If I end up with even half that level of class, I will consider it to be a win

Lot of debate whether CNN’s Jeff Zucker was over-penalized. Baffles me when media folks defend their own when the simple and simplest organizational rule…you can’t sleep with someone you supervise, is being violated.

I’m junior to two Legal Counsel (I work in-house) who are passive aggressive towards each other. They don’t attend each other’s meetings and leave each other out of email CC’s. It’s pretty clear this is done on purpose as one of them has bitched to me about the other.

What would you do in this situation?

Just got let go and my manager said part of it was because I was looking for other jobs. I didn't look for other jobs at work, so I'm not sure how they could have known that unless a coworker snitched on me. Is it worth it to try and find out who or should I just leave it? The small firm I work for has a terrible turn over rate and I think it is in part due to the firm owner/managing attorney. He seems oblivious to this and always finds fault with the people who leave. Is there any good way to approach this with him or am I better off keeping my mouth shut? It’s affecting my work because I keep losing assistants and paralegals and then having to get new ones caught up.

Have you been fired before even starting your new job?

I signed for a new job two months ago and will start next month (3 mo notice period in Europe). They were very keen on getting me on-board ASAP before signing but since I signed the contract it has been silent from the new employee. I've emailed them with questions as I'll be re-locating to NL and it takes them 1-2 weeks to reply. Given all that's going on in the world, I'm worried they might fire me before I even start.

Requesting thoughts on developing a registered agent / local business advice (contacts, defense, small real estate masters, etc.) client book. I am thinking about developing semi-passive income streams for myself as a member of a small firm who does litigation and some of this work already. Any advice or anecdotal experience, anyone?

3 attorney firm. I’ve been here for 6 years and have used Westlaw exclusively. Now we are switching to Lexis because apparently Westlaw is too expensive. I hate change. I know where everything is on Westlaw and now I need to relearn. Apparently Westlaw will not budge on price and would rather just see a client leave than work with them. Super annoying. Any insight on negotiating Westlaw or transitioning to lexis?

What is a fair salary for a 3rd year PI attorney at a boutique law firm? I went to a T-14, 1 year PI experience, 1 year clerkship, 1 year other.

My wife is pregnant with our second child. She has a good job and health insurance. I went out on my own doing criminal defense so I could help with our first child. Our daughter has been sick a lot. I work at a small, 3 lawyer firm. One of the lawyers is not barred in the state we practice. Because of this, the managing attorney has been having him draft motions and other legal documents and use my name and bar number and having me file them because I will have to appear in court for the matter. Is this normal? I am not provided time to review the materials before I file them so I end up working longer days because I am nervous to file something using my name and bar number.
