How many billable hours do people in prosecution tend to average each month? I’ve gone through waves of feeling like my billable hours requirement is reasonable to feeling like I’m drowning and can’t possibly do it for that long.

Internal Thoughts: Being a lawyer is already stressful enough, but these BILLABLE HOURS can kiss my entire ass! Aside from going in-house can anyone recommend some other career paths in the legal field that don’t require billables? Thanks in advance 🥲

Partners/shareholders - how many hours are you expected to bill on work vs client dev and firm/associate management? My firm keeps saying that "there's no such thing as a relationship partner" and everyone top-to-bottom is expected to log 2000 hours/year on real billable work. Marketing etc is done on top of that. Is that normal?! If so, I'm going to have to totally rethink my life goals.

Has anyone transitioned from Tax to RM? Could you share your experience and pros/cons of the change? Really want to get out of client facing/billable work, but I like my firm. Thank you!

Based on the comments of many I know I’m not alone in just being weary right now and the past year. Big law litigation is just a billable hamster wheel I want to get off. I’m also done with firm politics, billable hours, and mystery comp models. But I’m a sucker for security and the “devil you know” has kept me here for years. New Orleans attorneys: my firm is trying to gather data on billable requirements, rates, and salaries because it’s been experiencing crazy turnover lately. If you’re comfortable, it would be helpful if those in New Orleans or similar markets can share this information. I’ll go first: 1. Firm’s primary practice: insurance defense; 2. Firm size: 25-50 attorneys; 3. Billable requirement: 1950 annual; 4. Salary range for 1-5 year associates: 70k-100k; 5. Salary for 5-8 year associates: 100k-125k.

Naive question: How many yearly billable hours are reasonable for a good balance of work and home. I have a young child and don't want to miss out on important moments. I had one firm state that their yearly quota is 1900 hours and I don't have a frame of reference as to whether this is reasonable or if it means 12 hour days.
