I love working at the bookstore and I'm proud to work with such a large group of people from different backgrounds. I'm really happy we're all here. But it probably isn't the best idea to get someone to reshelve books when they haven't been taught how to categorize them properly. It's like I spend most of the day following one of my coworkers around and discreetly fixing what he works on. He's a great guy, very personable, but wow is it frustrating.

Have you tried teaching them yourself?

We don't have weekly meetings, but our manager is pretty open to having conversations so I'm not too worried about bringing this up. Just seems kinda weird that no one was put on training duty but I suppose these things slip by sometimes

Yeah that does sounds painful, they don't provide training for that when they make new hires?

You would think so, but I guess no one has stepped up to the task? I"m probably gonna have to get on top of that myself

And how's responsibility is it to make sure every employee is appropriately trained?

Not mine, I can tell you that much

oof I hear ya, nothing worse than having to clean up after other people's messes

That's what I'm saying!!!

Found out today my toxic manager bad mouthed me to an HR rep in a different division. This correlated with his bad management and abusive behavior. Luckily the new manager I’ll soon be working with dismissed it. Her words of wisdom “reflect on what you could have done differently, you can only control your actions”. How does that resonate for you? Have you had similar experiences?

Do you have a chip on your shoulder? How does it impact you?

This is based on some conversations I've had with partners. Many have a story about some past negative event that spurs them on - being passed by for partner, a racist/sexist comment from a higher up, an ex telling them they wont suceed.

Mine is from an associate two years senior laughing and telling me I'd never be able to carve out my niche. Now, that niche is almost all I do. I think about his response whenever I feel demotivated.

LinkedIn question: I’ve never seen this before - someone shows up in the list of employees at a company. Is this a privacy setting or did they block me?
