I made a mistake. Told my client to write child support cheques for $800 instead of $1000. 😭😭 I’m worried and stressed about having to fix this on Monday. How do you deal when shit like this happens

Be upfront and honest. Tell them the mistake and how you are going to fix it. Everyone makes mistakes (and for those who haven’t, you will), but it is how you handle it that the client and the firm will remember.

Can anyone recommend an app or software for tracking billable hours to make it easier to put together and submit timesheets? I work for a small firm and all of our billing/invoicing is done manually. Every couple of weeks I go through my notes to type up my timesheets and I’m wondering if there’s an app that can record my time as I work and then put that all together categorized by client to submit for invoicing. I don’t need to note how much a particular client pays per hour.

How do I maintain my client (and coworker) relationships if my coworkers take them to night clubs, concerts and other such places?

Hi. People Manager here. I've been one for 12 years now and I encourage my team to not be "yes" people. At this time, it feels like my manager wants me and my team to be yes people for her. How do I deal with this? I've never been a yes person and I don't preach this to my reports. I don't know what to do. Help?

Venting… I had a PC reach out last week for services (commercial real estate) who proceeded to tell me that their project is going to make me the “gold standard” , so rich and etc. further they wanted me to send them a plan of everything needed for all the phases of development and an estimated cost. The call completely drained me and rubbed me the wrong way. Then they brought up my age and me being younger, saying it’s an opportunity of a life time. It felt extremely condescending.

Is a daily 1.5 hour commute (total) worth a more supportive work environment and better benefits?
Thinking of jumping ship after just 6 months in a fully remote position for an in-house, in person job where expectation is 5d/week in person. Commute would be around 90minutes/day in interstate. Better salary, good 401k match, parental leave (20 weeks paid), 4wks PTO, and a very big name for the resume. 3 YOE. But I love the flexibility of remote work, so struggling to decide.

Any insight???

I'm starting month 5 at my firm & it's been VERY slow. I'm barely hitting 100 hours a month. While I enjoy taking it slow because I'm burnt out, I'm very concerned that I won't even meet my prorated annual billables. I ask for work & have been told I'm gonna get super busy but it hasn't happened. They say we have work & are hiring 1-2 new attorneys yet I don't get work. I'm not sure what to do or make of this. I have voiced my concerns to my partner (who's leaving) & was told I'd get work

I joined a new firm back in January and I’m still having some slow periods from time time to time. I am getting work but it ebbs and flows regularly enough that I’m not consistently billing 8 hrs but usually bill a minimum of 4. My plan is to discuss this with the partners I work for when I return from my honeymoon in July as that will be just past my 6 month mark. Any downside to waiting? The guilt is hitting me hard today.

It seems partners are much more flexible with associates who have kids than with those who don’t. If it’s okay for my colleague with a kid to leave at 5 pm and log on later, why isn’t that the same for me (no kids)? My obligations might be different, but I still have a life and want to be able to do certain things, like catch that evening workout class or cook dinner for my partner. As you can probably tell, my firm is operating 100% in person. There is no point here — I’m just whining.
