Some of my favorite advice received was “Would a privileged, white male do it?” If yes, then do it. If not, don’t do it. Address it. If it’s just you taking notes, don’t let them rely on you to have them always. Maybe ask “What’s the rotation for who’s turn it is to take notes for the group?” If someone tells you the task and to rely it to your partner and the cd, respond “Please email and copy ____ and ____ and all parties involved in the request to keep everyone on the same page.” Or ask your partner, “hey could I see your notes from the meeting? I didn’t catch something and want to check” People will keep treating you like this if you let them. If they know you will relay the info, take notes, hold their hand, they’ll do it as long as you let them so break the cycle now. maybe don’t give your notes to anyone else so

Not discounting your feelings about it being gender based, but I think this is also a pharma thing. There is an attitude that the “copywriter will just figure it out”, “make the copywriter do it”, “unfortunately this will be some extra work for copy 😉”. It’s beyond annoying. And it ain’t right! The way I restored balance was, 1. “Rehearsing” with my art partner and then emphasizing that I’d be leading the meeting so it would be great for them to help out with the notes. 2. This one is hard, but I would suggest gently blindsiding your art partner. Let them fail in a meeting and expose the way you are carrying them, “I’ll let art partner explain that.” “I hadn’t thought about it that way. Art partner, could you explain?”

I’m a mid-level working in a niche area in NYC. I like the work I do, put in long hours, high quality work, take time to mentor juniors, etc. I see myself at a law firm long term but now wondering if this is the right firm to make partner. Among others, one big concern I have is the non-existent emphasis on diversity and inclusion initiatives (they aren’t even pretending to care...), no committees, no statements in support of POC, etc. How do I find firms really committed to these issues?
