I made $0/hr as an intern. Not only that, but I actually had to pay my college for the credit.
Paying your dues, friend. Put a year in, then jump to an agency with better work life balance and/or pay. Our ladder is better than chipotle's.💃
And your opportunity for growth is a bit higher 😉 Both financially and intellectually.
I'm very sorry you're not satisfied with your salary, but your comparison to Chipotle workers objectively portrays you as seeing yourself as better than them — and there's really no need to belittle others just because you're dissatisfied with your own lot! Especially since, unarguably, providing food is more valuable than advertising it.
Yeah but $8/hour after taxes. So go you.
I also made $30k at my first job out of college two years ago. $45k would've been a dream.
45K starting ain't bad. You'll grow. Unless you aspire to become a manger at chipotle one day.
12 years ago, I started at 30k. It isn't much now and wasn't much then, but it paid most of my bills. I worked at night in a bar and other odd jobs to supplement, because I didn't like the feeling of having no money. I then moved to a small start up where I was offered exactly what you make now, which was a welcome raise - and put in 60+hrs a week, and weekends while still working at night as often as I could. Continued to grow, jumped a couple more times as clients and agency's came calling due to my experience and now make 6x what I did when I started. I still work a lot. I still lose weekends to work. But I love my job and I'm fortunate to have it. Also fortunate to be able to express myself and be valued. Our industry requires that virtually everyone start at the bottom. It's egalitarian that way which I think is cool. Its long road and it takes grit. Find some or find something else.
Financially, maybe. Intellectually?
I started at 60 but went to grad school for it. Think of the loans you don't have...
Started at 28k. Quadrupled that in 8 years. Suck it up and do good work. It'll happen.
I was paid 35K for almost two years in NYC. You eventually get a bump or you move on
^^It's true. Providing me burritos is the most important job in the world.
@op what city?
@DigitasLBi that's very true, just something I'll have to deal with for now and not eternity
Yeah I started at 36k in SF. Put in your time and grow.
The money will come. Everyone always says that and it's so frustrating to hear when you have none. But it does come. I also started at 28k, and after 10 years of agency experience I'm at 5x that. If you want to make more money today there are options. But there is money in this industry if it's what you love.
I guess for reference, I made $12.50 as an intern. I get that it's what you gotta deal with when starting out, but I wish we'd expect more for ourselves.
I started out at $24k in NYC 13 years ago. Remember your goals, stay passionate, and differentiate between wants and needs.
Also chipotle would never actually schedule you 60 hours. Corporate chain restaurants just don't do more than like 35-40, because then they have to hook you up with certain benefits and pay overtime and shit. So if it makes you feel better, you literally couldn't pull the same income working there, even if they did pay the same hourly after taxes.
