You’re just handling the housekeeping. He’s doing the firing. Shouldn’t be anything to stress about on your end.

The employee might completely switch off after being fired, so try to keep your part short and not too detailed. Let them know you'll be sending out paperwork so they can review later (send to their personal email) and invite them to get in touch with you to ask questions once they get a chance to look everything over.
Do not apologize, and advise the manager to not over explain or be emotional.

That makes sense D1 on saying sorry it didn't work out. When I recommended not apologizing, it wasn't meant to be unemotional or uncaring. I've read a few things to say the employee being fired is the one feeling emotions due to a very difficult circumstance and so it can be perceived poorly to have the people causing that state to be showing "sorrow" or empathy.
I think you'll be okay. You're not the one meeting with the employee via zoon, right? You are just doing your job so there's nothing to worry about.
