Since it’s an internal promo, I wouldn’t expect more than 65-70k. That might even be pushing it.
Take whatever they give you and you can move laterally in 6 mo - 1 yr and aim for 80-85. Or put in more time/hustle for awards and good book pieces and make the bigger jump to senior.
Thanks. I'm just a bit frustrated because when I was an AAE I was making OT which equates to my salary as an AE and then I made the move to strategy at the same salary - so essentially, I've been making the same amount of money for 3-4 years 💀 and I'm more than ready for a significant bump.
Want to get paid? Get a job at another agency. Internal promotions never amount to what you're hoping for $$ wise. But recognize that when you switch gigs, you lose political capital and can get stuck working on the worst accounts.
Totally. Just sucks because I love my current agency and work on a great account. It still doesn't make sense to me for agencies to spend so much time, effort and money to cultivate employees, only to push them out the door. But it guess it's the game we all have to play.
Slightly unrelated—how’d you make the jump from account to strategy? It’s something I’m looking at
Sounds like a great way to get some hands on experience! I would, however, try your best to make the title jump at your current place. It's much much harder to get that strategy role externally because many people just look at titles. At least IMO and experience. Best of luck!
