I need a recommendation from those WFH. I need to set up a desk at home. I have limited space and can either set up a small desk in livingroom or bedroom. Which of these two would be best? I want to avoid distractions but I am concerned of setting up in the bedroom and feeling like all my time is spent there. I am also concerned that people visiting will walk right into my "office" when they come by.

I cannot stress this enough, do not do bedroom. It is SO hard to disconnect from work when you stay in the bedroom all day, and can lead to sleep problems because your brain is still in work mode when you enter the bedroom at night. i did this for 3 months and found myself really depressed, and moving to the living room helped so much

Agreed with this 1000% moved office into open living room from bedroom it’s 10x better.

Living room (that's my set up too btw). You want your bedroom to be the one place that is segregated from work.

I’d set it up where you have more natural light from the window.

I have the same issue as I have no extra space for a home office and didn’t want random, bulky furniture taking up space in my house. I actually recommend getting a collapsible desk (make sure it is still big enough as the one I got is a little small) but it is so nice that you can set it up anywhere and then fold it up and put it in away at the end of the day or on the weekend. Out of sight out of mind! I just did a Google search and found an option there. I also recommend a nice laptop tray. This allows me to work from a comfy chair or my couch when I don’t have to be on video. In this situation I just prop my extra monitor on an end table next to me. No extra furniture and much more comfortable. Good luck!

Have your camera facing the wall so that no one can walk behind you. Please don’t put your desk in your room.

Thanks, all. I have no other room that can fit the desk (I need an monitor with the laptop). The best natural light is in the bedroom. Will put on virtual background and using noise cancelling headphones. It seems like my best option is to set up in the livingroom. I started working in the bedroom but I've noticed that I keep landing back on the laptop when I'm supposed to be off.

like

Try a fold out desk, that way you can move it to whichever room is best, easily, or store it away so you can “leave the office.” Some fold out desks attach to the wall (so you’d have to decide which place you want it) but can also be “closed up” to put away work. Try searching wall desks/4 stars and up on Amazon. Or WFH solutions for small spaces on Pinterest. Also… noise canceling headphones are a game changer.

No other options? Maybe a walk in closet? I wouod think the ability to have a closed off space will be a priority.

I have my desk in the bedroom and it works great! Just wake up and I’m ready to start my day. That way if my husband is in the other room we both have our own spaces and can stay separate without distraction.

If it’s a laptop I’d suggest the living room. If it’s too distracting during calls you can go into the bedroom to take them.

Living in a small 2br apt in NYC with my wife and daughter, dog and cat, there is no way I can be in the living room, so I'm in the bedroom. It's brutal, but on the plus side sometimes I tell my wife I have an hour call, lock the door, jump in bed and get a decent mid day nap. I usually end up working later to catch up, but that's my time away from everything to really shut down

We have a 4 month old. If I told her I had an hour downtime, I would be watching the 4 month old.

Does anyone have a SO who doesn’t quite get the whole remote work thing? My SO sees nice weather outside and wants to leave in the middle of the day to grill or get outside, and gets frustrated when I say I need to stay on the computer. I don’t have crazy amounts of work, but I do have a manager who needs to know the hours I work every day. Does anyone else have a partner like this? If so, what do you tell them?

Anyone know of any agencies open to a fully remote copywriter (East Coast, USA, if that matters, but I’m not fussy)? I'm struggling to get back into the real agency world after some time in small-market purgatory. Also, if there are any CDs willing to check out my book and give me an honest assessment on whether they think it's good enough to get a job with, it would be much appreciated. Can DM anyone willing to have a look.

I live alone and have loved the time not traveling but WFH has really started getting to me the past few weeks. On top of that, I got a series of bad news this week that really took a toll on my mental health (one has affected my ability to visit family), and I’ve never felt this alone in my life. I miss having an office to go to and see others in. Even started skipping workouts & cooking, both of which I love. Could use hugs and inspiration to get past this hump

This bowl: USA vs non USA I enjoy a lot of threads in this bowl, but equally a hell of a lot are US specific, and pharma advertising just doesn't work in the same way anywhere else in the world. Would love to know what proportion of the active bowl users are based inside vs outside of the USA? Should threads always have country/city tags where relevant? Edit for clarity, it's not just DTC vs HCP, it's also queries like who's hiring, who's doing good work, process, workload, holidays, etc.

Hi. I have H1b valid until Nov 2018. Petition ammendment/extension filed and received RFE. If worst case scenario and it gets denied, can I apply / switch to L1a? If yes, what's the processing time?

What are peoples thoughts on two different career paths within public accounting. One is the typical longer hours like 55 hours or more during busy season and the other one is 40 hours a week all year long with a reduced salary, almost like a reduced schedule employee. The reduced hour career path allows you to enjoy whatever you enjoy about public without the long hours but your career progression will be similar to industry and the other path is pretty much what it is now. Thoughts?
