MBB perhaps. What’s the prestige in B4?
You are getting good exposure to insurance sector. Get the experience and you can get in as a senior consultant or higher. You might be better at your job vs moving boxes around a slide
Rising Star
I personally have never met an SC that was hired directly from industry, only from other firms. Not trying to be a jerk, that’s just my experience. I do tech implementations so it may be different in other parts of the firm.
The point I was trying to make (and made poorly) is that if op truly wants to be in consulting, they should really push to do so now.
I always told myself that my first job was a stepping stone to get to the job I eventually wanted. Working for big 4 can be a great learning experience and definitely can help open other doors in the future. If you don’t get in this round then no harm in working at another firm for a year and applying again when you have some more experience!
Agree w/S1. Many people have failed one year then gotten offers the next. More time to practice casing, more job experience, more skills can tip the balance. Learn whatever you can at UHG and leverage it for the next step. Keep an open mind too. Maybe you'll like the work or opportunities at UHG and decide to stay. Transitioning to corporate life is hard enough, let alone transitioning to consulting.
I didn’t get into any MBB or B4 out of undergrad but I grinded and got in as an experienced hire after 2 years. Keep your head up!
I started out of undergrad at a small government consulting firm. Although it was poorly paid, it had Immediate responsibilities, direct client contact, and international travel assignments at 22yo that I still haven’t matched at Deloitte even as a 32yo.
I learned a ton. It was a great stepping stone for an MBA, then I went on as a campus hire to the big 4 with an easy interview process and transition to the firm, because the skill set, client impact, and professional network was already proven.
Find a company where you can learn and cut your teeth on consulting skills without having to be among thousands of analysts. Big4 wouldn’t have provided the same value as I had at a small firm.
