When I look at my day rate being charged to client and what am paid I wonder where rest of money goes. While I can understand billing rates to be higher than your pay rate but 4-5 times higher?? I can’t get that. I feel many of consulting firms especially MBB and big 4 have over inflated rates as compared to services they provide. This needs correction sooner or later.

Currently in a big 4 doing HNW individual tax (1040, GTR, 1120, 1065 etc). Despite the long hours during busy season, I actually really enjoy what I’m doing. My goal is to make manager in 5 to 6 years and director in 10 years. Is this doable? I’m currently making 57k as an A2 in a LCOL city, is it realistic to expect 200k upon making director?

Are all jobs just terrible and we should just accept that and move on? I've always been one of those who seeks passion and mission and fulfilment but after 15+ years of working in different places, most have their own challenges and nothing is perfect.
