I need articles and other resources people have found helpful about being a working mom and balancing expectations during quarantine, or just generally. Please send links. Thanks very much!

Not quarantine specific but the the book “drop the ball” helped me.

Definitely recommend drop the ball!

Also get rid of the idea of balance. By saying we have balance implies there is this perfect, ideal equilibrium of work to mom ratio that doesn’t actually exist. I read an in-house attorney say it was work life integration. There are times your work interferes with the rest of your life and when the rest of your life interferes with work. Just changing that frame in my mind helped a lot. We have a 19 month and 3 year old. It’s a lot with both of working from home full-time. But by giving myself grace and focusing on the integration, it’s helping me.

Yes it's more of a peaceful truce or coexistence... Not really a balance.

Hi there,
I’m a bit newer to data science and recently read through a few academic case studies on ethical fairness in ML/modeling. Would love to start a thread to hear some more from data scientist/ML perspective.
The most harmful example I came across was bias in ML for the criminal justice system.

Is anyone currently in a data science/ML position willing to share their thoughts/maybe an example based on experience? Thinking about how to actively prevent this kind of bias in future models

I just received an offer on a job I would really like to accept. The salary offer is about 25% higher than my current salary, which I am happy about, but is also the low $ on the range I had expressed to the recruiter and the exact $ that I put on the online application (I had to put a $ figure). Am I being greedy trying to negotiate for a bit higher? Do they expect me to counter? I have been burned by NOT negotiating in the past but who can be mad at a 25% increase??

I posted here some months back about my ectopic pregnancies but today, I'm posting to tell you all to hang in there and God will do it for you. (Please don't insult me of you don't believe in God because I strongly do).
In a nut shell, we had baby #1 without trying. Started trying for #2 and over 2 years, I had 4 miscarriages and 2 ectopics. In July, my doc informed me that the only way forward was through IVF. I was tired and confused. I PRAYED! and continued trying. (The rest in the comments.)

I recently switched company, but now i am realising that the role which i have been assigned is not the one which was offered to me.

I then decided to go back to my previous organization. They are ready to take me back. Salary difference is not much(about 15% less than my current ,but approx 65% from my last drawn salary in my previous org). But i used to love my work and role in my previous organization.i switched because of money.

Is the decision right to go back ?

Associates, how did you balance your morning sickness and fatigue in early pregnancy with work? Thankfully I’m still WFH, but worried about receiving insane turnarounds that require me to stay up late/all night and the effect it might have on the baby. I am purchasing a home and my boyfriend wants in on the deal as a co-owner. It is only me on the mortgage. We are planning on writing up a co-ownership agreement with a 60%/40% split and yes he will be paying 40% of the mortgage, down payment, and property taxes etc. He wants to be on the title as a tenant in common to reflect that %. Is that fair? I just want to make sure I’m protected but I also understand that if he’s paying all this money, he wants some security as well

Fellow millennial lawyers: tell me, in general terms, 1 or 2 clients you acquired and how you acquired them. I feel like the suggested strategies for developing business are always the same: network, build your brand (hate this phrase), market yourself on LinkedIn, etc. Does any of this work? Seems to me to that most business development comes from long-standing contacts (e.g. your childhood best friend is now CEO and needs legal services), so I’m curious how other attorneys developed business.

Need hair advice for how to make my hair look ok for the office. I’m Korean, with thick, straight hair and I’ve never done anything to it - I never even blow dry it, and I’ve always worn it down. But through my 20s, my hair has gotten more and more coarse and frizzy. Insanely coarse and wirey with random kinks in the coarse strands — no hairspray, frizz cream, or oil has been able to calm it. I’ve tried deep conditioners too. I have 0 hair skills - are frizzy ponytails my only option?

Advice needed! I started at an ID firm only a few months ago after a long stint doing in-house litigation. I was referred to the firm by a very good friend who also still works there. A management position at my old in-house firm has now been offered to me. Higher salary obviously and no billables. I am seriously dreading talking to my new boss and telling my friend that I want to go back in-house. Has anyone dealt with something similar? I just feel so bad and don’t want to burn bridges

I was fired last month after a short time at the company. I knew things weren't going well- it was a terrible culture fit & I was also planning my exit strategy. They wouldn't give me specific reasons other than to vaguely say it was performance related. I agree I made a few dumb mistakes (none of any dire consequence) but what kills me is that I tried really hard. I don't want to change careers but I have a deep seeded fear that no matter how hard I try, I will never be a "good attorney".
