I need help with Christmas gift ideas for the other paralegal in our office. It’s only the two of us, and I’ve been at the firm for 4ish months. We have a good relationship so far, but feel like I’m still too new to know what she’d really like.

Booooze. Unless you know they don’t drink.

She does!! Thank you!!

When in doubt, gift card for Starbucks or Dunkin with a pair of fuzzy socks!

P2 - that’s a good one since she commutes into the office!

I agree a Starbucks type of gift card would be great.

That’s what I’m thinking!

Gift certificate for pedicure, massage, anything to help her decompress. Maybe a place you can go together to bond outside of the office? Can you sleuth her social media? Honestly I’m so bad at self-care because I’m taking care of others all the time so any kind of spa service would be very gracious and well-received.

It’s so thoughtful of you. Hope she likes and appreciates it!

I got monogrammed blankets for admins and paralegals I worked with one year and they were a hit!

In taking over our strat dept I’m overhauling our recruitment plan with HR, but curious to hear opinions on interview exercises for mid and senior level folks.

I’ve always had to do them in interviews, but also don’t love that they’ve usually been ‘free thinking’ and often intensive, or don’t really help you understand their thinking.

Anyone employ exercises or assignments in recruitment that can share inspiration?

It's almost 1 am and my neighbors TV is so loud I can hear the show through the wall...I hate Mondays.

Struggling with my 17 month old toddler. It's been almost 1 month that he is skipping naps. He use to nap for 2.5-3 hours a day and I don't know what is happening with him. He can get 11-12horus of sleep every night and he doesn't wake up till 7:00 or 7:30am. I am really woried cause I think he is not ready to drop all naps.
Is anyone experiencing the same thing right now?

Young-ish family of 4 here (32 years old and two kids of 4 and 2). We are currently in Greenpoint, a neighborhood I like, but as we are looking into buying and planning for school for the kids, I was hoping to get thoughts from fellow Fish bowlers about best neighborhoods in BK/Manhattan for families. For those who live there, please share your insights and what you think is the best bet to buy. Thinking between here, Carroll Garden/Cobble Hill and Upper West side. What are your experiences?

First day on client site where I was told it’s casual dress code, with people wearing jeans etc. Would Clark’s be okay shoes to wear? Not sure if my Allen Edmond Park aves look good with jeans/khakis

I had a final round on Friday and I’ve seen a lot of examples of people getting calls immediately after with offers. I was told that they’ll call me on Monday morning, but is this more likely to be a rejection, or am I just in my own head?

Hi folks, what round of interview do you guys typically ask the salary range of the position? I’m looking at a non-client facing role if that matters.

Just got this email from my Personal Capital account about their savings account. Went from 2.10% to 1.85%. It was 2.30% before the first rate cut a few months ago.

My son wants to study the same as me, he is only 12 years old, but he has an immense love for biology. In spite of how flattered I feel I can't stop thinking how difficult it is to find a stable job in this profession, is it time to talk about it, or do I wait for a little longer?

Does anyone have any insight on being a paralegal with K&L Gates?

Looking for some advice; I've been a paralegal for about 5 years now, and the past year or so has been hard. One firm closed, which dropped me in another firm which was never good for me, and then into another with a culture that was really unhealthy to me. My resume shows a few short stays at firms, and now I'm looking at moving after six months due to issues that turned over the entire paralegal team so far except for me. How do I show employers I'm a dedicated worker after a difficult year?

Let’s talk about the difference in job salaries within your own firm - I am a 25 yr old and have been working as a paralegal for 4 years now. I came into the legal field 2 months after graduating and and have worked at 3 firms. Since joining my new firm in 8/2021, I have handled over 75+ residential, co-op, and condo closings from negotiation to close. I make a measly $65K and was given a $1.5K raise last March. A new para was hired and given the same salary as me even though she has 1 yr of exp

Are there any Los Angeles paralegals in this bowl with experience in complex trials? I’m looking to share my woes of dealing with a case with more than 10k exhibits that will never see the light of day on trial. 🫠

I’m also looking to insight for how you handled providing the court with exhibits admitted. I suppose we will find out at the FSC, but I am posting this to find out in advance.

How would you generally describe the work environment in a law firm? Is everyone’s firm just an extremely toxic work environment??? I’m a female and I have to say, the nastiest people are the older women— and they’re worse than private school moms or teenage girls.. endless gossip running around, constant shit talking, talking down to one another and whispering, etc.

Hello, everyone!

I have an interview for a relatively new law firm early next week. However, upon doing more research about them, I noticed that their website has only a black-and-white website about only what the law firm is about.

My questions are:

Is this a red flag?
How do you guys prepare for interviews specifically with law firms that have little to some information on their website and Glassdoor?

Thank you so much in advance!

Has anyone ever had an attorney throw work on them at the last minute?

How do you deal with inexperienced attorneys misguiding you or telling you to do things that are not correct? I’m helping out the Florida office (I’m in Ga) and I’m less familiar with their rules. I really want her to go ask someone what the correct steps are.

Has anyone had experience bringing up issues in the workplace?

Our firm merged with another a few years back and there are still things I see from the “other side” that just don’t seem to be fair. Like certain PTO policies and working remotely. We are the same company and I feel like the policies should apply across the board. Open to advice before I go chat with a Partner.

Hi. I’m new the the world of Paralegal. I got hired on and have been learning from the lady I’m replacing. I’m also going to school to get my AS in Paralegal. My boss and i spoke on hourly of $15/hr and said we can revisit once I’m done training… $15 is out of the question.. i cant even pay rent off of that. What do you all suggest is a great entry level salary for a Criminal Law paralegal ? I’m in Houston

I think I am about to be going through a divorce. My husband and I have been "in the thick of it" for almost a year and the last couple weeks have shown me that things are not getting better. I think I'm at the end of my rope. I was having concerns 3 yrs ago, but really was able to confront issues this year. We've been married for 6 years, together 9, and have a 2 year old. I'm 30 years old. My family isn't super supportive. I'm nervous, scared, worried, all the things.

Any corporate paralegals that can chime in on their experiences at Ropes and Gray or Gunderson in Boston, MA?

That moment when you finally have all the trial submissions and exhibits drafted and given to the partner for final review after spending more hours than you should have gathering and drafting everything because your partner’s idea of case management and trial prep make you want to pull your hair out. The relief I feel right now, albeit temporary, is *chef’s kiss*

Anyone know a good paralegal headhunter for Boston/providence

Any tips for a paralegal who wants to transition to an in-house position? I have 2.5 years of para experience and a decade of admin experience. I have my BA, AS, and AAS which are all related to the paralegal field, and various applicable certificates. I'm also working on my master's in management with a concentration in agency administration. All job postings I see want you to have a certain amount of in-house experience.
