I’d jump ship for the money/better potential of growth. Don’t feel bad about choosing the best for you.
If I were looking for a candidate, I wouldn’t rule you out, but I would want to find out why you had three jobs at three different agencies in such a short time. If you feel strongly you will stay in the new position, fine. Just remind yourself to stay if things get tough.
Get some experience first. My first question would be to ask you about jobs you have already handled. The pregnant pause would tell me everything I need to know.
If you jump ship early enough, do you even have to list the IPG job on your resume?
I left a WPP agency for an Omnicom agency last month. Mark Read, WPP’s new CEO, has been on a mission of consolidating agencies, merging, etc. in order to be more financially healthy. They once had a crazy number of small digital and creative shops under the WPP umbrella, but soon after the consolidation, there will likely only be a few big agencies.
When these mergers and consolidation happens, there’s usually a staff reduction that goes along with it. I’d be mindful of that as you’re considering your options. Mark Read has been under the gun from stakeholders to consolidate and make the group profitable.
At my former WPP agency, our office saw a lot of attrition from the bottom of the ladder all the way to the top (our ECD) in 2020 H2.
I would be weary of that. If you do a Google search of WPP, you’ll see everything that I’m talking about.
Do it
An agency would never give you the same consideration. They’d cut you without ever thinking twice. Jump for the better position / pay.
