I would counter the dream company anyway to meet the other offer on the table and then if they say no, let them know how much you would have loved to work there but you need to make good decisions for you and your household and the other offer is better.
I agree. I would actually Counter a bit above the highest offer! I wouldn't bring up household finances I would come prepared with your experience and what you bring to the table
Is the offer really the “best and final” or is this their first offer which they have labeled as “best and final”?
I would be up front about all this, frankly. Let them know that you’d be taking a pay cut by accepting their offer, and while you really want to join their team, you’re unwilling to make such a drastic lifestyle adjustment to do so. When they ask how much you make currently, give them the Philly numbers and see how it goes. I think you’ll be surprised.
Ultimately, the choice is yours, but I wouldn’t accept any less than what you’re currently making.
This is after 3 counters. Came up slightly. They added an overtime option, but all over time must be approved.
Great advice, counter offer the dream company with the Philly offer. Regardless, it’s a job to make money, take the highest offer.
Negotiation tactic that I have use in the past. If it’s the max offer you get. Ask for incentives. Double pto of your current company. Relocation benefits or moving benefits. I took a 2K cut in exchange for more pto and relocation benefits.
They have fixed benefits by division. I asked for additional pto today and it was a hard no.
I have until Monday to make decisions. I went back to both for counters. Philly is offering free parking, and 2k sign on.
Dream job is offering 5k sign on but can't do anything about salary. They are offering overtime, but must approved.
5k sign on doesn’t even make up for your loss from your current job and something tells me if they’ve got the money to give you a decent sign on bonus but not a recurring yearly salary bump, you may have a hard time getting decent salary increases. If I were you, I’d go where the money is. Philly’s a rough spot though too, need to take that into consideration if you’re planning to raise a family. As well as cost of living between the two locations.
