Good morning. I am currently a senior associate in BugLaw, and I have applied to several trial attorney jobs in Chicago offices of federal agencies since the start of the pandemic. According to usajobs.gov, my applications to the DOJ and CFTC were “referred,” and my application to the SEC was received and my GS scale verified. But I haven’t received any updates on these applications in over a month. Does anyone here have any insights on these or on federal hiring generally? Thanks!

First and foremost, don’t let a crappy project or lead make you feel like it’s time to leave. Get on a new project, find a new team, etc. If you’re still ready to pull the parachute, scrub up the resume, make your LinkedIn profile up to date and switch it over so that recruiters know you’re interested in new opportunities.
Next up, start looking online for different jobs. Learn what’s going on in industry. Spend 15 minutes a day doing this - there’s no way you can’t find 15 minutes.
