If you need the cash in a year, leave it in a HYSA. Don't invest money you need in the short term.

Not following. Do you need cash or do you not need cash? If you need cash you hold it in HYSA. If you don’t need cash you invest. You are talking about investing which means you don’t need cash which contradicts the first sentence.
Would you have other resources to pay if the market is down then? If so, investing is fine, if not, I would keep it safe
Invest in a fund : VTI , FBGRX or anything like that and sell when you need the money. I was doing the same thing and with inflation , I was losing money.
Yes. I understand that. But you are not taking the risk of losing 30% or more which is the risk you seem to be fine with. Over longer periods of course you should invest. For a year you should not invest if you need the money.
