Is the DC DMV finally open? 👀
Virginia or Maryland?
sadly that rent is on the lower end for DC
Not dumb. That’s about what I make and spend to live alone in Arlington
If you can still hit your savings targets, go for it. You’re not gonna get a much better rate living by yourself in DC
I don’t think so. My take home is $5000 and I spent $1900 for rent + parking just outside of DC
BAH1 chillin in Manassas.
I pay $1850/month for a luxury building, but I live near Black people (I’m Black, being facetious lol) and don’t drive. I bring home the same amount after taxes, and this is not sustainable given I want to retire early. But…Gotta make choices

I did a similar thing when I was starting out in DC. You make it work. Didn’t save as much in my 401K (did 10% vs maxing it out) but that’s life
That’s good price. I pay 2100+200 for parking but rent always ends up to be around 2700(dog, sewage, water). DC is decently expensive
Yeah that’s really not that bad. I was at about the same range for a while.
Low?! Hah you don’t have to live in the newest high rise… literally check out FB Marketplace and find stuff so much cheaper… I mean if you want a single room yeah you will pay that much… wooof 1800 on rent no thanks
It’s in NoMa
It’s fine because ideally you wouldn’t be spending much on transportation (metro is garbage, but decent enough for a car-free lifestyle). Do you need the car? That can easily add $500/month even without parking fees.
Not out of the norm OP. My first big kid job netted me 5100/month and I was paying $2350/month all in (UT’s + rent etc). See it was an investment in yourself, insofar as you expect to make more and can promise to yourself that you won’t succumb to lifestyle creep. I own a condo now and I’m still happy I let myself have my own space from the outset.
This is a pretty common % here to spend on housing. Is it dumb? No. But you do have trade offs. That’s a pretty good price for a 1bdrm. One suggestion I have is look into seeing if the address has parking reciprocity. In Noma, it probably doesn’t. But if you can park on the street it would cost you $50 a year instead of $2400…if you drive everyday, maybe the convenience is worth it to garage park. But if all you’re doing is housing your car, that’s a lot you can save.
No. I bringing home 4700 a month a my rent, electric and water is 1900.
I don’t feel a strain.
