Have them play Oregon Trail! There’s a card game version of it at Target though I’m sure you could print your own if needed. While I can’t guarantee the historical accuracy, it gives a good idea of how hard the journey was to survive

My suggestion as well !

like

Have students select and become one of the travelers on the trail. -create their video journaling their experiences -write a daily journal as the person chronicling their journey -cartography: create maps for their journey with geological landmarks -have a market day where travelers can barter goods -students create short plays (3min) in small groups that highlight key terms -create a tic tac toe for students to select 3 activities to turn in. -food day (small groups) each group is responsible for bringing in a dish or food staple of the Oregon Trail travelers

I’ve given my students a blank map and had them color code and label the main trails, rivers, mountains, plains, etc.... We also do a covered wagon project where students build a covered wagon and are encouraged to include things that the early homesteaders might have taken. They also write a short report about the various obstacles they may have encountered. The kids usually like this one and get pretty creative. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m anxious for new ideas so I’m glad you asked this question ❤️

There is also a free computer game for them to play. There are books that go along with the card game. That’s if you want to extend it to novel study. Some are choose your own adventure and they are fun! I just did an entire expedition and found awesome book resources and things on TPT that are great !

The computer game is awesome! You can find the original one, just like back in the day! Also, BrainPOP has some great resources for Westward Expansion. If your district doesn’t have an account, I think you can sign up for a free trial? My kids actually made their own BrainPOP videos on Westward expansion topics. They loved it!

To all the post-9/11 veterans, it’s a somber day that unites us all in the reason we fought. It’s easy to forget - especially with the younger generation having 9/11 be a history lesson rather than something they lived through. The waters became muddy with two wars and politicians, but you all stepped up and did your duty. Thank you all for your service, it’s an honor whether we crossed paths or not.

Curious to know if there are folks out there who are genuinely scared of driving like me? I’m in my early 30s and I’ve been terrified of getting my driver’s license for years because it seems everyone drives so fast and I’m scared of crashing. This is now starting to affect my relationship because my s/o thinks I’m just lazy to get the license when I’ve reiterated that I’m scared and even tried doing lessons but i wasn’t comfortable. How does one overcome this fear?

Dear friends Help me finding a job in development sector. I'm interested in Consulting space. Going through a rough phase and empty pockets have taught me a great lesson. Being unemployed wasn't a choice but mandatory to look after my family. Since, everything has reached to it's pace, I'm ready to pull up my socks for new assignments. Happy to have a quick conversation on career guidance and also shaping my career ahead. I could see people from prestigious organisations are here. Pls help.

Taking a new job as the CFO of a $40m revenue company. I’ve never worked outside of PA, posted a JE, etc. so pretty nervous/green when it comes to the day to day management of an accounting/finance department. Any tips or lessons learned you’d be willing to share with me?

Here’s a reminder for my perfectionists, first/second years, and those of us questioning if we’re doing enough. Your lessons do not need to be incredible this year. Fall back on some of your favorites, do what you can, and make sure you’re allocating time for yourself everyday. Yes everyday or else you will go insane. End each day by saying you did your best and no matter what mistakes you make or if lessons flop, try again the next day. You. Are. Human.

My grandfather passed away a couple months ago and I just learned I’ll be inheriting around 200k euro. What is the smartest way to invest this money? Is it smart to not spend any of it and just put it all away? I am 23 years old. Thank you in advance for the advice and I’d appreciate any personal stories / lessons learned as well.

I'm making an internal transfer to FAAS service line (out of audit) and only got a $2K raise. I was under the impression that FAAS gets paid a fair amount better than audit? Was I mistaken? For context: I'm leaving audit as a "top rated" S1. I'm already compensated at the top of the pay-band (as told to me by the recruiting team who are helping to transition me). I also applied for PWC CMAAS, but was offered the same exact compensation as EY and was told there was no room to negotiate.

For those willing or bold enough to share: For EOY reporting are you bench marking against 2020 or 2019 or both? What about for projecting 2022? I’m torn looking at 2020 as an outlier or including both years to be more objective? We had a good year this year and it compares fine next to 2020 numbers. My thinking here is events impact our lead gen and revenue numbers and as we all know this year events slowly started up. Looking forward to 2022 having even more events 🤞 Hopefully no variants
