Thank you!

To people who believe that this is “just the flu” or are determined to not wear a mask out of some silly sense of individualism... to the people who believe “I should be able to make my own decisions, and if I get sick that’s my problem”... you are wrong. Your poor decision making ripples out to people whom you don’t know, and will never meet. People who have sacrificed more than you have during this pandemic, yet are still in danger due to your intransigence.
And it’s wild to come onto this app and see otherwise highly intelligent people who will look at this raw data and say “the risk is low!”, or complain that people want them to get a vaccine, or point to an increase in suicides that pales in comparison to the primary and secondary effects of this disease as some evidence that we need to go back to “normal” ASAP, costs be damned. It’s wild that with all of this evidence, anecdotal and macro-level, people are still want to just pretend like this is no big deal.
As Americans, we must do better.

This is why we need to stay home for the holidays. Elective surgeries that keep people alive are shutting down.
I was more speaking from personal experience than this situation.

I would look at the closest major city with capacity and go ASAP. These are crazy times and hospital beds are in short supply. Do whatever it takes to get him the care he needs and deserves!
P1: Sorry, I misspoke.
I meant Disney world. Which is still open.
Mea Culpa.
He is having heart attacks daily? and is not admitted to a hospital currently?
Ugh. I’m in texas and yeah it’s bad. I have a heart condition and have been consistently worried all year for fear I’ll need something. This is an absolute worst case nightmare and I’m sorry y’all have to go through this.
I am in San Antonio, I know we have taken in covid patients from east texas. Obviously that’s quite a drive... but our hospitals here are great.
Is there any chance he could be air cared somewhere further away? Maybe somewhere more rural will have more open beds?
I want to be careful not to sound ignorant here because I really would appreciate honest discussion. I’m definitely not a COVID denier or anything, and I understand that there are ripple effects of the illness and it’s very serious for some people, and I feel your pain as I lost my grandpa to Covid back in June, but I don’t see why heathy young people who have no interaction with anyone who is at risk shouldn’t be able to live somewhat normal lives. I lived like a hermit for 8 months and got Covid still. I know it hits people differently, but for me it was just loss of smell and energy for a few days. Obviously I quarantined, but if the symptoms for healthy people are mild, then shouldn’t those who have no interaction with anyone who is high risk be able to accept the risk that they might get Covid and have to quarantine, but continue living their lives and support businesses? And yes obviously suicide is a major issue, but don’t forget child and domestic abuse as well.

Again, you can give it to the other healthy people at the gym, you have to have, what, a worldwide pact that all young healthy people everywhere totally avoid all at risk people?
And the barista, lunch server etc are not in on that pact because they are working for an hourly wage and HAVE to be there and may still live with Nana.
So your plan is really that only young, healthy and very privileged people go out?
Who will serve these people? Who will clean up after them? The answer is: people who don’t have nearly the level of options you do. You put them at risk with every step of your so called plan.
Think it through. When you go out now who do you see? Hourly wage workers. Not other 20 year old accountants. There is no way to just free the privileged classes to roam free in their bubble and not encounter people with risk factors or who live with people with risk factors.

I was meant to have surgery related to fibroids that was canceled for same reason. 😕
Update: he was admitted to a hospital late last night. The damage from this week is done and a pacemaker is no longer an option. His doctors are now just focusing on prolonging his life for the next few days.
A completely preventable death.
Just unbelievable.
Very sorry about the outcome. Hopefully his family will be able to be with him over the next few days.
