Your feelings are totally valid. I would have been really upset if my husband had acted like it was no big deal when I passed the exams.

like

Congrats!!!! That is a huge deal! Honestly, go make a plan to take yourself out to a nice dinner and casually let your husband know why you’re doing it and say he’s welcome to come celebrate with you. Maybe he’ll connect the dots

like

First, congratulations on passing the CPA exam. Second, do something that makes you happy, shopping, travel to places you always want to go. Third, if you already communicated your feelings and expectations with your husband, and he’s not changing, I’d be upset, too. Don’t let it slide. Hope he’s planning something for you or at least trying to put a smile on your face.

Hell my fiancé took me out to celebrate after I passed two out of four exams. Doesn’t matter what your love language is he should have done something. Could have been writing you a letter of how proud he is of you, cooking your favorite meal, posting on social media, a gift or anything. Your feelings are soooo valid. Please speak openly with your husband about this.

like

Your feelings are totally valid. I would feel the same too. Your spouse is the one person who has been with you throughout your journey and has seen you work hard every day, so his words and acts (or lack thereof) would have a whole different level of meaning. Though it's still wonderful that your family and friends are being supportive.

I would feel the same way especially even after I communicated about it

Congratulations on passing the CPA! Your feelings are totally valid. I didn’t pass the CPA yet, but my best friend showed no enthusiasm at all when I graduated (not even celebratory drinks). I’ve showed up and celebrated for both her bachelors, masters, was a bridesmaid in her expensive wedding, etc. So I definitely feel for you! I would say try to tell him how you feel. In my situation, I cut that friend out of my life because there’s no use in keeping people around who won’t celebrate your wins like you celebrate theirs, but I know that what I did won’t work when it comes to marriage.

uplifting

Since you’ve told him how you feel about it, what was his reaction? Apologetic because he didn’t realize, defensive, apathetic? To me this would be a really big deal. It’s not about what HE wants or would do in the situation, it’s putting himself in someone else’s shoes.

like

Yes your feelings are valid. Passing the CPA is a great thing to celebrate and congrats!

Honestly this made me sad and mad because I know the effing struggle of the CPA (still going thru it) and u had illness on top of that. Your feelings are completely valid and for him to not even try to do something after you mentioned it is just so not cool. Like he knows what you went thru right? And how terrible the exam can be? You need to book yourself a solo mini vaca somewhere or make it a girls trip! Or Get yourself something you always wanted to reward yourself. I mean my SO bought me a bottle of ros`e even when i only passed my first section because he said each pass was cause for celebration. (He knows i dont like champagne so made an effort to get a bubbly i would like). I mean a lot has been going on and i would have given your SO the benefit of the doubt but you spoke to him about it and for him to still not do something or at least get you something is just not cool. Do something for you that will make you happy, you DESERVE to celebrate this accomplishment. Congrats 👏🍾🎉

uplifting

Your feelings are valid. I'm sending you a virtual hug. I'm very happy for you. 🥂

Congratulations!!! I would be pretty upset. It’s funny my friends and family made it a big deal when I passed the first exam but once I passed the last one, it’s like they were over it but that’s the most important one 😭😭 I share in this frustration

like

Valid. Sorry to hear that 😞

Some men are just weirdos who don’t care what your love language is and will rather have you complain instead of showing enthusiasm about your accomplishment. Congratulations to you!!!

Congratulations! Some men are dense. I have no problems telling my husband — Let’s go out to celebrate! Sometimes you have to be crystal clear before it sinks into their heads.

My bf bought a bottle of Don Perignon for us when I passed, and he totally doesn’t do gifts. Yes, this is HUGE! Like others said, it is possible he just needs a gentle reminder, definitely bring up that you’d like him to do something at a minimum.

Sometimes I think others don't really get how much effort goes into this. I didn't know gifts was a love language 🤣 kind of sad to only feel loved with tangible gifts

I have this problem that I picked up from my father growing up: can’t effectively communicate negative feelings to people that I’m close with. I sort of expect them to know, and when they don’t get it or don’t show efforts that I’m expecting to receive, I start to distance myself from them and shut down. I started to reflect back on why I do this, and sense that this is some kind of a sick way of showing I have more power over the other person. How can I fix this?
