I plan on putting in my two weeks soon but I have a week and a half vacation coming up. If I put the notice in right before I go on vacation would the firm just tell me to pack my bag and leave now?

I've seen multiple people do this at EY with no issue. Take your 2 weeks, come back, put in your notice. Word of advice, if your last day is on the 1st of the month, then you have insurance for the whole month.

I start my new job a week after I come back from vacation so I would have to give notice before I come back. Thank you for insurance advice!

Yes, they would rather pay out vacation and have that count as part of your two weeks

If your vacation is after your 2 weeks then it's more a discussion of where you are doing. If another b4 your last day may be the day you give notice.

At Ey, if the pto was earned in the prior year (before 10/1) then you do not get paid out. It only the current year pto (10/1 and later)

Official policy is that you can’t use vacation during 2 weeks notice period. It’s in the policies in my people link. I’ve seen plenty do it, but you usually need to get approval from HR partner. YMMV depending on office norms.

Why would you ever take vacation during your 2 weeks when you can get it paid out? That makes absolutely no sense

The point of notice is to provide for an orderly transition, so it’s kinda a dick move

Partner came on the call and told everyone that family was number 1 and asked people to spend time with family and even take time off to do so. Then he thanked people who were pulling 70 hours a week and he ended a call with asking half of the 50 people to work the upcoming weekend too. What kind of sociopathic skills do I need to be able to inspire to become a partner one day.

PSA: reminder to schedule a day or two off in the upcoming weeks for a 4 day weekend (heck maybe even an entire week). It can do wonders for alleviating stress. Today I’ve gotten my oil changed, taken my dog to the vet, cleaned up my unibrow & have a facial scheduled. The rest of my day will be applying to jobs. I’ve only checked my email once and it feels so ridiculously good not to be tied to a laptop Monday morning. Take that time off ladies!

Does your firm have traditional PTO or “unlimited paid time-off”? If the latter, do you and your colleagues take vacation? My friend who specializes inHR/organizational management said even though the intentions may be good in offering “unlimited” PTO, in practice most firms and companies always see a significant decline in people taking vacation because they no longer feel entitled to their PTO. Is there a way to take advantage of the policy within reason (5-10 days/year) or is it a total scam?
