I posted a little while ago but I have noticed a number of compliance issues with my current org - not using imputed income for domestic partnerships, tons of I9s not filled out correctly, snd remote employees tax withholdings not being updated to the state they live. I’ve brought them all up with my supervisor but nothings happened. I don’t wanna get caught up in an audit. Should I send some sort of official letter or just resign and look for a new gig?

I think sending a letter would be good to cover yourself. Sorry. That's an awful situation.

Thank you. Would you recommend reaching out to a lawyer to have them review the letter?

Perhaps there are things you don’t understand.

Could you elaborate? I just don’t want to be identified as someone who had actual knowledge that the company had not paid payroll taxes and chose not to pay them

I'd just be sure to document any notification you send so that you CYA. Unless you're unhappy otherwise. Then, just move on.

I experienced this with an employer. They did not care when I brought compliance issues to their attention. I documented my efforts and their responses (basically I should take no action) to cover myself.

Any of you manage WFH / telecommute more than 50% of the time? When I was an associate, you hardly saw the principal/owner. Now that I’m 7 months into partnership, I just started a set up for WFH myself. It’s basic right now, but once fully set up, I don’t see a need to go to the office other than client meetings. But in this area of law, even in a pandemic, people love to just stop by. So that’s one of my concerns if I transition to WFH.

Starting us off with an important tip: Your resume is a marketing document, not an autobiography. It should include relevant jobs, responsibilities, and perhaps most importantly, achievements. Where you can quantify an accomplishment or just talk up a major project you led at work or in an internship, do so. The point is to make the hiring manager think, “Wow, I need to talk to this person! They seem like a good fit!”

Pretty highly rated consistently and up for director this year. For years been thinking of starting a business (franchise). Pandemic has put a dent in that but still viable option. Gross profit is 350k (median) and a line of business I’d be very interested in. Clearly this is less pay than new parter (but could open more than one eventually) and risk may be higher for failure. What other factors should I consider when evaluating staying to partner or trying my hand as an entrepreneur?

We provide new hires a voucher to use to redeem company branded merchandise of their choice. They have 30-days to use it, otherwise it’s invalid and the funds return to the company. Do you believe the value of the voucher needs to be taxed like gift cards? My stance is no, because it’s a company purchase and just giving them the option of which merch item to choose and there’s no cash value.

SPHR exam- has anyone ever been “randomly selected” for an application audit? This just happened to me and the sheer amount of effort that is going to go into collecting all the documents almost makes me not want to follow through. Since I didn’t finish undergrad, they’re asking for a copy of my high school diploma or transcript and that itself is going to be an absolute nightmare to get hold of. Guess I’m not really looking for a solution here, just venting.
