Yeah, your first mistake is having people from work on your social media.
Your second mistake is that you should never, ever post anything negative about work or working on social media. Even if it is generic and doesn’t name people or companies. It just doesn’t reflect well on you or your firm and people will note that.
It was not necessarily wrong, but it was poor judgment.
If you want to start a serious conversation about micromanaging, there are better and more productive ways to go about it.
you’re not alone! props to you for taking those steps. so many people love to complain but aren’t proactive about making change
I mean, if you have such poor judgement that you thought it was a good idea to post that to social media it sounds like you need to be micromanaged to avoid screwing up...
Lol what a bad move on your part. When will people stop shooting themselves in the foot with their social media?
If you didn’t post names (client, team, etc) then the manager and partner probably need to find better things to fill their time with
How did they find out about the pic? 😨
So they thought it was a cheap shot at them. Not wrong but naive.
I don’t think you did anything wrong, but I agree that was poor judgment knowing that you had managers/directors that were going to see it. They should have spoken to you before going to partners as well.
That being said, I have a micromanaging manager. Had a conversation with people above the manager and eventually a conversation with my manager with 2 higher ups in the room just in case. Complaining about micromanager will probably not get you anywhere unless it’s constructive and you can offer up examples and solutions.
So - just for a different perspective: imagine your manager gave you feedback, and you ignored it. And then the next project they gave you feedback, and you ignored it. So your manager goes on social media and makes jokes about their idiot senior (without naming names). No one likes public humiliation - these disagreements are best handled directly between the individuals - and with HR assistance when necessary. I can’t imagine your social media post made the situation any better - so other than retaliation what were you trying to accomplish?
it helped me get out of the engagement i was in. im much happier now with my new group
It’s super passive aggressive and this should be obvious. I’m surprised you even have to ask. If you were a senior working with only one staff and that staff posted this article, how would you interpret it?
And you posted it after talking to them about that very thing? 🤔 Of course they had a conversation about it at that point.
gosh, that was dumb.
