I practice PE M&A at one of the big firms in the space, but I'm getting tired of just doing M&A transactions and would like to explore doing other kinds of corporate transactions at a place like Goodwin, Cooley or Gunderson where only part of the work in the group is M&A and the rest is essentially being in house corporate counsel. Has anyone made a move similar to what I would be doing? Is it easier to find time for a personal life or is it the same level of demands?

I work in Kpmg as a legal specialist (before I worked in BigLaw for 1 year) and I have just passed the NY bar exam (plus I have the gc and an LLM). I am sending my resume to big four and big law trying to get a job offer but I just did one interview. Any tip or advice? What are the firms that would find my profile interesting?

I am a first-year in big law who started earlier this year. I am on pace to bill around 140 this month and I feel like I am not doing enough work. I’ve consistently reached out to partners but am not getting staffed on assignments. Today I did barely any work. I keep hearing about how slammed firms have been recently and am nervous that I’m not doing what I’m supposed to be doing. Is this a common enough experience when you first start out? What could I be doing differently to be more visible?

Accepted an offer of employment with a mid-sized firm to begin in a couple of months. I’ve always wanted to shoot for big law but haven’t had the opportunity thus far. Overall, I accepted because I didn’t want to take the opportunity for granted in addition to the uncertainty with hiring due to covid. Would it be an issue to shoot for a big law opportunity in the interim? I know how this looks and sounds, so I definitely don’t want to set a precedent that I deal in bad faith.

At matrimonial law firm almost 3 years now. My billing rate is currently the same as two NEW hires who are less experienced than me (one who has never worked in matrimonial law). How am I supposed to interpret this? Does it correlate with my work? My pay?

Have an associate 2 years junior to me with whom I work frequently.. they seem to make an intentional point of not responding to my emails (but promptly responds to client, partner, etc), but 75 percent of time will eventually do what I ask. It has become a distraction. Generally I get good upward reviews - I’m respectful of juniors and expect them to have a life, etc. I’m unsure why the passive aggression. One of the most frustrating things is having the partner “de-prioritize” your deal. They stop responding to questions, take forever to review things you’ve sent them and act annoyed when you try to follow-up. Does anyone else experience this?
