Take the job and suck it up. An hour commute wont kill you. I commuted for 20 years. Look at other options - Try Carpooling. Is there a train or subway you can take instead of driving? Are you hours going to be flexible where you can beat the traffic? Is it one hour commute with traffic or without traffic? How many miles are we talking here? Download podcasts, audio books, etc. Is the commute causing you anxiety? It did to me when I had to move further from work, but I sucked it up.

An hour isn't the worst commute. I had one that my commute time depended on the time had to be to work. If it was for a 9 am start, it was a 90- minute commute, 8am, was 75 minutes. Same place, just volume of traffic made the difference.

Data strategy question: My Fintech organization has 2 banking products, both of which have similar features, but one caters to smaller banks and credit unions while the other focuses on the top 100 banks in the US. The product and engineering teams for both these products operate independently and rarely use any common technology vendors (except AWS, our common infra partner). Does it make sense to have a common data strategy and a single data lake across this products? What are the benefits?

Has the blush come off the rose for this shining city on a hill? Have any other foreign fish in the US been asking yourself why we made the conscious decision to seek out a life in this country? The racial tensions and frequent shootings (including a much covered grocery store that I used to frequent) are outweighing the benefits of staying here. Never have I had to worry this much about going to the grocery store. The reaction of society here towards these issues is also dismal. Is it worth it?

This one is for folks on h1b visa. So at time when you have an offer in hand(not accepted the offer yet and h1b transfer process not yet begun) while you are working with your current employer, do you even speak to your employer about your new offer to see if they make a counter offer? Is there a risk involved with this approach assuming your current employer doesn't provide you with a counter offer and they ask you to leave immediately (and your h1b visa hasn't been transferred either)
