OP - would strongly suggest you remind your teams of your up coming vacation that was booked some time ago and then go and have a great vacation.
Personally I really do want you to take all your vacation. You have earned it. You really do need it. We all need to have real breaks. We should start planning our next vacation as soon as we are back from the last one. Gives us something to look forward to as well.
The work will still be there when you get back. I promise you it will. Now please go get some time off
I really never thought that a summer vacation would be an issue, but this busy season just won’t die. It’s crazy that the firm says take time off to rest, when they still expect us to get busy season level work done.
Agree with all, take the vacation. My only point to add is never, ever say the words “refundable” when talking about it because people will jump all over that as a reason why you should cancel. Even if you say it by accident, correct right away with “did I say refundable before?? Oh my mistake! Yes it’s NON-REFUNDABLE, package deal, can’t cancel, impossible, sorry 🤷🏼♂️. Good thing it’s been on the calendar for months, right? Otherwise I’m out $10,000. Sorry.”
Take the vacation you added it months ago. You’ll never look back in life and say “wish I worked more”.
since you added the vacay to the calendar back in spring, i think it’s fair to bring it up to management so they can accommodate your schedule. Typically if you’re taking vacation, it’s expected you’re maybe traveling and booked your flight/hotel, etc. and usually management knows that and is understanding about it so try bringing it up. And worst case scenario, you may have to reschedule your vacation but the chances are slim. But Ultimately if you never ask the answer will always be no
Take it. Be proactive. Communicate about it as it comes up. Remind everyone about it. Disconnect while on it
Take the vacation. Especially since it’s June because by the time next April rolls around probably no one will remember. Also they could’ve seriously just forgotten when doing scheduling. The world won’t end if you take vacation. A great coach once told me “{name}, PwC was here before you and it will certainly be here after you”. It was on that day I learned to say no We aren’t that important.
Take the vacation. My biggest regret is not taking a long vacation for my honeymoon because I had just started with the firm a few months ago and didn’t want it to “look bad”. I don’t work there anymore so it doesn’t even matter. But even if I did, I still wish I would’ve taken a longer vaca. Take the vaca. Enjoy your time
Cancel my vacation (refundable hotel) to be able to work on the projects, or should I just take the vacation and deal with the fallout (lower rating/review by the higher ups)?
I would take it but I am a grumpy old man and don’t care what people think. My RL made the comment that I had high OT and high number of vacation hours taken.
Seriously. At PwC We don’t get paid if we lose them ie max put the accrual. The team knew when you were scheduled so you take it. If you are concerned talk to the engagement leadership.
Take the vacation. I do assume you talked to your team and/or HR when booking it originally ?
Take the vacation. The firm can live without you for a week or whatever.
They probably saw it there, and schedule anyway, knowing you’d be on vacation. It’d be impossible to schedule work if you tried to fit it around vacations, so they just put the time there. Plus, the timing of projects are super fluid
Question: is simply putting time on a calendar the only means of communicating your vacation to the team? My team uses a calendar also but sends an email. I would not be in a calendar months ahead to know if that was the only method of notification
They should probably make talent link not trash then. The interface makes me not want to update it
