Remind whoever staffed you that you’ll be out of contact for your vacation. And they need to get coverage for you. Then take your vacation and don’t check in at all. You aren’t indispensable and it’s the partners’s job to get the resources they need

Depends on your group and firm dynamic. For me, the answer would be no, but it’s not ok

like

Absolutely. Just remind your teams you’re going to be out and to find coverage/help them find coverage if you can. For the new matters you took on, did you tell them up front you were taking a vacation in December and to plan accordingly? If not, I’d suggest doing that next time so they are not caught off guard.

You better damn well try!

Deloitte moms, I need your guidance. For some reason, someone (not sure which team) has marked my maternity leave (LOA) starting next week on DTE and I can’t update it to show PTO. I have repeatedly told the Leaves team and MetLife that I’m not starting LOA until the baby comes (due date 10/31, no baby yet). Whom do I contact to fix the DTE issue? If this happened to you, what did you do?

My dad is in his 80s and just had a stroke. He is in the hospital getting better one day and worse the next. My job has been really understanding and are giving me time off, but I recently started there and don’t want to feel like I’m taking too much time off. Between my brother and I, we take turns going to the hospital, but he seems to be taking less responsibilities knowing that I am here to talk to doctors and be there for dad. I also have my own family and my husband is a little frustrated

We have an AMAZING nanny - we adore her and she is so great with our child. We are just using her for 6 months while we wait for our daughter to get into a nursery program. We didn’t talk about this up front - but, typically, what do you do in these situations for vacation/holidays? If she goes on vacation, do we still pay her for those days? If we go on vacation, do we still pay her for those days (supposing we give plenty of heads up)?

EY needs to revisit their “unlimited” PTO policy! Even new job postings have been edited to reflect the new term “flexible” time off. Do you equate this to stack ranking during the performance review cycle? Positioning teams and peers against each other due to pressure not to take time off unless on the bench which you can’t exactly plan or predict.

I’ve had a very interesting experience with my manager as a new hire out of college. I’m all for constructive criticism, but feel like this is really destructive criticism with no aims of helping. She constantly rejects my spreadsheets for things such as my font being Times New Roman 12 instead of 10, cont..
