I quit my job in May due to burnout and I'm not sure what my next career move is yet. To pay the rent while I'm figuring things out, I'm considering taking on short term doc review projects. Has anyone used doc review as a primary source of income, and, if so, did you find it was viable in the short term (or long term)?

When I did it, there were several postings on Indeed for document review. When I knew one would be ending soon, I would start applying for other ones. You typically hear back pretty quickly

I did it as well waiting for results and then finding a job. It’s low stress, however there were multiple times they would say a project would take 2-3 weeks and then it would end a week in and they would send everyone home. Normally a new review started within a week, but it can be unpredictable

I did it shortly after I graduated law school after my clerkship ended. I did it for about 4 months while I was looking for an associate position and it was definitely a good way to pay the bills. Easy, low stress job

A2 posse list seems like a great resource. I would've never come across it otherwise. Thanks for the rec!

Thanks for the advice everyone! I've been applying to doc review jobs on Indeed the past two weeks and haven't heard back yet. Can you be "overqualified" for doc review? Do doc review recruiters prefer JDs fresh out of law school instead of associate level attorneys a few years out of law school? I can't see why that would be a bad thing.

What did you end up doing?

I accepted a new job offer (40% salary increase) but the start up is really struggling to find someone to organize their main events. This would only take me max 5hrs/week. I decided to freelance for them as I can use the extra. How much does a campaign/event marketing manager charge per hr. as a freelancer? What is the norm for setting rates?

I applied & interviewed at a small firm in JUNE. I thought it went well & the owner & I knew each other from previous cases we handled. They ghosted me so I moved on. Mid November comes & I get a call from the paralegal “are you still looking for a job?” I thought that ship sailed but let’s see what they offer. It’s the holidays & I’ve got time off already scheduled. They’ve made a tempting offer but are not flexible on the time off & seem desperate. Like they want someone to put out fires.

Which would you chose?
1. ID firm
2. Small regional firm with private clients and low billable, but not very known
3. An in-house management role that you have the ability to move around to a counsel role, if necessary.
Money is essentially the same.
