I'm not sure how this happened, but I'd probably clarify this as soon as possible with HR or the hiring manager. Ultimately it's up to the hiring manager typically to title you, but they sometimes have external factors that impact this too. Better to get this out there before you invest more time.
Yeah, I'd hate for you to have put in so much effort for the wrong role
I wouldn't wait for an offer. I would get it clarified as soon as possible so they don't have to waste their time putting together a package.
Would email the recruiter and ask for clarification on the grade. Say you want to ensure you’re going for the right level to prevent any further efforts on anyone’s side If you’re interviewing at any FAANG companies then be prepared to be downlevelled, regardless of where you think you are.
They interviewed me for an L7 and downgraded me to a 6 - was my first (and last) FAANG. Good luck in getting clarity and definitely don’t let them downlevel you 🙂
I’d clarify this as soon as possible. If it’s not the level you meant to be interviewing for, nothing about the offer will change that. Not worth waiting.
Are you sure? Were there major signs? Did they previously tell you it was for the higher level? I don't even understand how these things happen but I know they do.
There was no system design component
I'm surprised that happened, it's definitely worth flagging to the hiring manager/recruiter you're working with
