You go out of status as soon as you quit.
If you apply for a tourist visa, you have six months to look for a job. But you can't work on the tourist visa, so would have to transition back to h-1. My advice is look while working at PwC.
A1 - I don't think that's true. I know we can take at least 2 week's break. Don't know if it's longer
I have friends who have used the tourist visa. However, I wouldn't advise taking risks under the Trump administration. Take some PTO and focus on the search.
Which part of the firm you work for OP that requires 2 month notice for PTO ? Just take the time off .. nothing is worth loosing your mental peace
It's just a job OP, nothing we do is rocket science nor are we saving humanity in any way. We all have good days and bad days, just take it in your stride and do not over complicate things. If you hate it, quit and find another job. Be fiscally, legally and emotionally responsible to yourself.
Hey OP, I agree with others than finding a job while having one is easier. I am speaking from experience as I got kicked cause I didn't get H1B visa. So take PTO, sabbatical, or whatever you can to maintain that sanity while looking for that new gig. Or I know it's frowned upon, but burn that bridge and quit that project to move on to a new one. Your mental/emotional health > everything else
Can we interview with the tourist visa? Or an H4?
You can interview while on the tourist visa. However, it's much easier to find a job while employed, and to switch the h-1 to a different firm.
Some new guidance came out in Dec. it said something about 60 days but that might be if you get laid off. It's also a one time deal
Thanks P1. That's what I have been telling myself too. But each day is getting harder to get through. 14 hours everyday, working the weekends. Don't feel good at the end of putting in so much work
Thanks D1. I'll look up online to check as well
Young one, hard work ALWAYS pays off. Whether it's building skills or work ethic/endurance.
PTO now needs approval and 2 months of notice! I might just get mentally sick and take sick days off
D1 - not so young ;) 5 years in consulting
OP, why don't you take a sabbatical instead? H1 does allow a 60 day grace period once per authorized validity period.
You are right D1. Something I should talk to them about. I just tend to pressurize myself too much. I should let go!

Totally agree. Which group do you work with?
