You're not alone
Partner 1, I have been in audit for a year now. Unlike my peers who are recurring on their clients, I am filling in needs of many engagements and only recurring to one of them. I got unlucky with a busy counselor. She was on a long maternity leave just recently and was so busy before that.
Take ownership. Ask for what you want.
I was just taken as a staff 2 from a different service line. However, you really need to take ownership and ask for projects that you find interesting or you will end up at a similar spot at your new firm.
I would give it some time tbh. Make an impression on the projects you have and you will start getting more interesting things. Maybe also ask for a new counselor.
D1 has a great point. I almost switched after a year to try to get more growth opportunities, had another position, etc. I had 3 weeks to decide at the time and a week before I was going to resign, a big jump in variety and challenges was thrown my way...and it stayed that way for years. Agree that you should say something to your current firm and many times that’s all it takes. If nothing changes, you know what to do!
Same boat as you. Currently shopping.
How long have you been in audit?
Same here in advisory
You should ask for projects that you find interesting.
All, thanks for letting me know that I'm not alone. I am considering going to another big4 but is not sure if they'll take staff2?!
And yes I have asked multiple times for what I want.
Thank you all so much for your responses!
There will always be annoying administrative or data entry things in any job. I would ask more questions about what someone is doing, or what was already done, etc to better understand the work to assess if you like audit in general before jumping ship. Oftentimes the more interesting work is done after hours since there is a base amount of grunt work to be done in a day. (Or help your teams figure out a better way to do things!)
