I really struggled with depression during my PhD program. Did anyone else experience this and how did you minimize the damage?

The same thing happened to me, and after finishing it I felt great satisfaction, I feel that it could be the fact that you went back to study after a while, in my case it was that.

Syndrome everything but thesis, is a syndrome increasingly common in studies and even more so in doctoral studies.

I share what was explained in the previous comment, the pressure of doing a thesis can lead you to suffer from depression because of the studies, I recommend you to read this article. https://diplomas.sbsblogs.co.uk/2016/03/02/post-thesis-syndrome/

I feel for you; it's pretty intense for a lot of people. It's hard to put all of your energy into something so demanding because you basically have no life outside of school. It's hard in the best of times. I went through a lot while I was studying for my degree, it's just my good luck that I happened to be studying psychology and was able to apply some of the techniques that I now use with my patients.

Not a PhD, but I earned a master's degree in informatics and it was intense. It was particularly hard because that was the first time I had been away from my family because I was studying in a different state. It was actually one of the hardest things I've ever been through. I kind of thought it was just me, everyone else looked like they were doing fine but I felt like everything was going to fall into pieces. I'm really grateful to have earned my degree but it was a lot harder than I thought because I felt so alone.

Yes... it wasn't as bad as some of the experiences I'm reading about here, but I felt really isolated during that time. It made me question whether I really wanted to finish my studies or just call it quits. The last year was really touch and go. My mother really inspired me though, because she's suffered from depression since her childhood and told me that she KNEW I would be able to get through it if I wanted to. She was right. So grateful to be her daughter

Thankfully i had the opportunity to schedule appointments at the school's counseling center so I made visits at least every couple of weeks. Finding a therapist that fits your needs is super beneficial

I quit. Honestly, it was the best decision I could've made and i was much happier once I got a job

It wasn't until I finished that I came to realize the mental toll I had accumulated over the years. It took some work with professionals and lots of love from my family to overcome my troubles.

Can anyone share their experience on Effexor for depression and anxiety? I used to be on Zoloft, which worked great, except I gained so much weight and lost all libido. I’ve been on Prozac for 6 months and I feel like it hasn’t helped for my depression, and it feels worse than before and I’m fatigued all the time. My dr wants me to try Effexor next, but I haven’t really heard much about it before. Does it affect your weight and energy levels?

Getting married in the Caribbean end of February. Going absolutely nuts with the range of my RSVP emails. Young people “can’t wait, so excited!!!!”, old people “too afraid to travel”. If it were in January I’d prob postpone, but I kinda feel like end of Feb might be ok? And who’s to say if I move it there won’t be another variant. 16 weeks and so worried all of the stress I’m under is going to hurt the baby. Between work, my own scary (non-pregnancy) health stuff, the pandemic, my mom (who is a widow and lives alone, basically isolated by choice due to covid) is having health issues, and pressures to keep billable hours up, I’ve been having complete breakdowns. Today I spent almost the entire day crying and now have to make up the billable time this weekend. I really worry abt what effect this will have on the babe.

After my first FET with a PGT tested embryo my HCG was 145 (8 days post transfer); one week later my HCG dropped to 31. My RE mentioned there is no hope and we will move on to additional testing before going into the next transfer cycle. Is there indeed no hope for the HCG to increase at this stage? What tests did your RE conduct after a failed FET. The embryo did implant, but did not develop.

Just saying…a creative listing their work as “part of the permanent collection in the Museum of Modern Art” is the height of b.s. It just means you won an AICP award. Yet you play it like you’re an “artiste”. That’s like including “included in the Library of Congress” on a book jacket. Sounds impressive, but as common as fruit flies in a bucket of old banana peels.
