I really want to get a puppy given WFH currently, but nervous about pulling the trigger given that we are likely returning to travel at some point in 2021. I’m single and live by myself, so worried about what the pups lifestyle would look like if I returned to travel 1-3 days a week (knowing that 3-days per week is certainly not fair to the dog).

How have others thought about this? I’ve raised 4 dogs growing up, so I’m well aware of what it takes from a training / attention standpoint.

Isn't it sad to adopt a pet you have to choose between your job or the pet? Maybe this industry is broken. #plzfix

What about fostering? Lots of animals looking for short term homes.

Foster - it’s really unfair to the dog to have you gone all the time.

You can’t take a day off when you have a dog, no less a puppy. If you’re prepared to commit to something every single day for the next 10+ years then go for it

Also, Rover / Wag to scratch the puppy itch without the time commitment

Don’t get a puppy with this career. I agree w ZS associates 1 it’s very unfair to the puppy if you are gone. Fostering for these next few months is a good compromise.

I have ~900k ultimate rewards points and am hoping to use them to take my wife and <6 month old somewhere for a week before Xmas. I just started back at biglaw a couple of weeks ago after clerking for two years directly out of law school. I am finding the transition really difficult. I felt prepared for the hours (although it’s not too bad yet so maybe I’m not), but there are so many other frustrations—the tight deadlines, depending on other associates (and feeling hamstrung by their constraints), and overall being bored by the work.

I know I need to get over these feelings if I’m to survive. Any tips?

Second year associate here. Recently moved to another job but having issues with paralegal. She’s been a paralegal for several years and is in law school at the moment. Every single thing I do on my cases, she is critiquing and telling me how she would’ve done it differently and what I need to change. I am appreciative for grammar checks, her help confirming research/case law, that sort of thing, but she’s doing 1000% more than that, even editing my arguments. What to do?
