I think you should go for it, you should do what works better for you and your employer should be a side note. They can figure it out. But who knows maybe it’ll take a few months!

Don’t get caught up in how your team felt. It’s your life. I don’t mean to sound cold but I had my baby at 44 last year after waiting to get the right job at the right company with maternity benefits and not get pregnant right away for fear of what it would look like just to get laid off when I was 20 weeks pregnant and start a new job at 7 months pregnant and no paid maternity benefits. Also, there was a miscarriage prior to pregnancy and I was trying to work around busy season similar to how you’re looking out for your team. I’m over making life decisions to make everyone else comfortable. As said before, work will be ok. Grow your family. Enjoy your babies. Enjoy your life.

Definitely try. At the end of the day do you want another baby or more work hours?

like

Thanks for slapping this in my face. I really needed to hear this 😊

like

Try for no. 2. Work can always hire someone. Don’t even stress about that. Just give them warning at a reasonable time and offer to help train / transition.

like

Try anyway. They should have hired an extra resource instead of complaining and guilting you. Try because you might not get pregnant this month, or if you get pregnant later the baby could be early and still hit January. None of us are unreplaceable. You can always apply elsewhere in search of a culture that is more supportive.

Remember that work is just part of your life and not your LIFE, but one thing I would be cautious about is the gap between the kids if it’s 3 years or lesser I have observed tons of challenges for first 2-3 years, like sibling jealousy, sleep training, behavioral changes in elder kids also potty training while you are trying to focus on a new bie etc.. again there are pros and cons of this gap planning! Make sure you train your elder kid in a way where he/she is welcoming of having a sibling...

like

Thanks for the advice but I’m not even worried about that stuff.

like

Go for it. Not your problem. Family first.

like

Do it. Likely won’t be January anyway, you’d have to be getting pregnant like right now. Coming from someone on month 4 of trying.

like

It took 3 months with my daughter so I worry it will take longer this time around!

Honestly planning kids around a job that could replace you at any moment without blinking is silly. Live your life for you and what works for your family.

like

Go for it. You never know how long it will take to get pregnant and if you’re lucky enough to get pregnant right away, your company will have enough time to plan for your absence.

like

It’s the ✨guilting✨ by your team for me.... Don’t delay trying for a child because of your team. At the end of the day, we’re all replaceable and the firm will continue to function while you enjoy life with your family!

Congratulations!! 🎉 🤰

I think my biggest hesitation is I had to submit my hours this week to my dept head for this next year and I did go up in hours for January compared to what I was at, so I feel a little guilty if I’m not even there

like

People come and go from jobs. What would they do if you quit? They’d find someone to help. They’ll figure it out. Prioritize what is best for your family.

Family over everything! Work will deal - don’t even sweat it. And that age gap will be great for the kids and for your sanity bc they can play together. Good luck!

I don’t disagree with the other posters, but I am in the same boat and have the same mixed feelings. I value my team and want to return to a positive working environment. I’m planning to start trying in the summer in hopes to avoid our busiest season, but you never know what life has planned for you. Best wishes to your growing family!!

like

I have mixed feelings too! I honestly did this though for my daughter. I told my husband I wanted to wait until it was a ‘safe time’ to not have a baby during my busy season. Well it took me 3 months to feel ready and then 3 months have of active trying before I got pregnant with her. I waited because of covid and honestly I don’t want to have to wait because of my job again. I left that firm because they held it against me of how poorly I did when I was pregnant

Moms, what is the standard etiquette and timing for your parents to come help out when you have a new born? I am due in April and we live in a small 2 bedroom apartment in NYC. Every one in the family wants to come to NYC and help when the baby is here and I’m grateful but I don’t want to get too overwhelmed trying to host people in this small space. I was thinking my parents could come for a couple weeks, leave and then my siblings can take turns? Thank you! Any advice will be appreciated
