Please take the offer and don't look back. Nothing 10 years out is gaurenteed. Feel free to send this as your goodbye email. Hi All,   As many of you probably know, today is my last day in KPMG. But before I leave, I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know what a great and distinct pleasure it has been to type “Today is my last day. “For nearly as long as I’ve worked here, I’ve hoped that I might one day leave this company. And now that this dream has become a reality, please know that I could not have reached this goal without your unending lack of support. Words cannot express my gratitude for the words of gratitude you did not express.   I would especially like to thank all of my managers and team members: in an age where miscommunication is all too common, you consistently impressed and inspired me with the sheer magnitude of your misinformation. It takes a strong man to admit his mistake - it takes a stronger man to attribute his mistake to me.   Over the past four years, you have taught me more than I could ever ask for and, in most cases, ever did ask for. I have been fortunate enough to work with some absolutely interchangeable supervisors on a wide variety of seemingly identical projects - an invaluable lesson in overcoming daily tedium in overcoming daily tedium in overcoming daily tedium. Your demands were high and your patience short, but I take great solace knowing that my work was, as stated on my annual review, “mostly satisfactory.” That is the type of praise that sends a man home happy after even a 10 hour day, smiling his way through half a bottle of mostly satisfactory scotch.   And to most of my peers: even though we barely acknowledged each other within these office walls, I hope that in the future, should we pass on the street, you will regard me the same way as I regard you: sans eye contact.   So, in parting, if I could pass on any word of advice to the individual who will soon be filling my position, it would be to cherish this experience like a sponge and soak it up like a good woman, because a job opportunity like this comes along only once in a lifetime.   Meaning: if I had to work here again in this lifetime, I would sooner kill myself.   Thanks

I came here searching for preparation tips for KPMG interview but after reading this I am rethinking my decision.. Lol

Lol. Will likely make partner in 10 years huh? That’s a fun statement. If we polled everyone at your level and asked them how likely it is they’d make partner I bet about half would think this. Yet, very few people make partner. It’s a long and hard road that you are minimizing and don’t even fully understand yet. Anyway, just to offer a different perspective than other. If making partner is important to you, you may reduce your chances by going somewhere else depending how long you leave. Sure you can boomerang, but it’s hard to boomerang and still make partner if the gasp is too long. Making partner is largely about relationships and if you come back five years from now that’s five years of relationship opportunity cost.

Take it. “I will likely make partner in 10 years”. Absolutely do not wait around for that you can always boomerang.

Dude.... A lot can happen in 10 years. KPMG can go out of business by then haha. But for real how are you already on the partner track 10 years from now. That track usually isn’t decided till you reach senior manager

KPMG4 - I see what you’re saying for audit purposes but tax is getting disrupted. That business will be a shell of itself in 20 years. Companies like avalara/tax jar have probably took over $500 million from the big four so far. The big four are made up a very small service lines. Within tax theyre probably 100 service lines/specialties. Each one of them are getting disrupted by technology providers. I used to work in another big 4 firm in their strategy team and three years ago was the first time they didn’t have an increase in revenue.

Lol in 10 years? A lot can happen in 10 years.

Take the offer, 5-7 years is a long time!!

Dude, 5-6 years ago I was thinking I will make Partner in X years time. Fast forward to now, and another 3 years have been added to the time-line. All of this on top of consistently having the highest performance and beating all metrics. All I'm trying to say is that the market and big 4 career progression is changing. Don't make bets on it. So many people stuck at Director level who'd never move up and will likely extend your tenure too. Take the new offer.

Take it. Partner is not guaranteed, and neither is job security that the group/leadership won’t go through a reorganization that would make you want to leave anyways. You can always boomerang back to kpmg

No question take the offer

You obviously had a reason for going applying / going through the entire interview process. I’d take it and just boomerang back in a few years.

Unless there is some type of learning/benefit that KPMG can offer to make it worth staying, take the offer at the boutique firm. A lot can happen in 10 years and the Big 4 is notoriously disloyal to their employees. You’ll always have connections to come back to the firm and go for partner, if that’s something you desire (this is my plan as I’m about to leave Deloitte for boutique to specialize in a certain skill). But overall, I’d focus on doing what’s best for your career growth, and on getting paid market value for your work.
