When I took a competing offer to my boss it took them under a day to sign off on a pay increase. You have to use it as leverage (not maliciously). But you do have to be willing to walk away if they say no.

like

Use the new offer as leverage only if you're willing to leave your current job, because they may not bite. If you love your current agency enough to wait it out, do it. There's no shortage of account roles right now anyways, another will come if they don't rise to the occasion.

Agree with the above. Don’t miss out of B waiting for A. It won’t take weeks for a salary review if they know you have another offer.

I guesi guess here's my thought. If you were interested in leaving enough to take another interview and there's a good pay bump I'd just take it. Your job now is only going to match it because they know you have value. So why did it take them this sort of shock treatment to see your value? I did the same thing in January and come October I've accepted a new job. It's just putting off the inevitable IMO. Something made you look, listen to that

Seeking advice on my dilemma. Currently a Manager at Deloitte, with a possible Senior Manager promotion in 2023. No guarantees of course. Awaiting EB3 EAD. Also initiating an EB2 app. Should I try and move to a different Big4 firm if I can get a level bump? New EB2 app, PERM and I-140 approval (premium) might take a year. Will need 485j. Or should I just stay at Deloitte and try for the SM promotion, while waiting for my EB2 EAD? Current base: $183K, 12 YOE.

I'm so fed up with the casual sexism of my mom. Last night, she was worried about my sister whose husband doesn't have "the same earning potential" as my brothers 1, 2, and 3, all named individually, so "she will always be poor". When I pointed out that she compared my sister only to my brothers, I earn more than them, and both my sister and I are at top firms in our fields, she said, "...mm". Later she said how happy I am when I'm not working and I should quit to raise kids (no kids yet)

I have a student with autism. He is mostly behavioral and at a lower learning level so he has to be in a separate classroom. We try to let him play with the students at recess or join in class parties. He has a sibling that attends school as well. When we were waiting in car line a group of girls talked about how they feel so bad for the sibling because of my student. Thankfully, neither student or sibling heard. But how do I respond to that as an adult? Especially, if they do hear?

do you ask to know the salary of a job during the first interview or do you go through the whole process (could be 2 total interviews, could be 5) to ask? The interview process is such a mental and time drain that I honestly don’t even want to go through it unless I know the salary is something Im interested in.

Curious on the industries thoughts on people who over sell themselves in the interview process for a senior level position and when they get the job it becomes clear they don’t actually know how do the work. If you are a supervisor what are your thoughts in this instance? How long do you give the person to “figure it out”? Currently dealing with this within our dept and it’s causing more work/frustration than the new hire is actually helping.
