It may be a bs excuse to kick you out of the process tbh.
I once applied for a company, did a two hour test, and they told me "your answers are good but your English is not good enough. We recommend you to take additional courses and reapply."
I felt extremely insulted. Four months later, they came back to me and said X role is available (same one I applied for) and is yours if you are still interested. So I pretended I was to waste their time as much as they did with mine.
I interviewed for a mid-level position. I thought I had a good answer for why I was interested in switching from plaintiff to defense work. I was on top of all of my current caseload statistics and was able to answer those. Basically, any tips (whether from interviewer or interviewee position) would be very helpful.
I cut out the “ums” and “likes” and I’m still a little confused about it all because I thought we’d gotten along well.
If I were you I’d go back asking for feedback and examples of how they considered you were underprepared and where you can improve in future.
You’ll either get a legit indication as to whether you were actually unprepared or not (depending on if they respond at all, and if so, what they tell you), and if you were, then you get feedback on how you can be better prepared in future. Win-win 👍🏽
