I recently accepted a role after being laid off for eight months. It’s in an industry I’ve been eager to move into and, on paper, the role looks like a strong fit. That said, after reading through Glassdoor reviews, I’m starting to feel uneasy. Many mention ongoing layoffs and significant organizational disarray. I’m really hoping for some stability and a chance to finally settle somewhere, so I’m struggling to gauge how concerned I should be. Any suggestions on how to calm my nerves? 😟

Every business is imperfect and everyone has their own experiences… let yours unfold and judge for yourself. You can always keep looking on the side and if something better comes along, you have a choice to make at that point. In the meantime, enjoy the accomplishment and try not to let unfounded worries steal your joy.

I joined my current firm during a hiring freeze and when there was widespread RIFs going on.
Sometimes there are opportunities during reorg chaos - you’ve got to understand the drivers and assess whether your hiring is the result of the chaos, despite it or will be a victim. Take the time to do this and you’ll be in a better position to make decisions.
Good luck!

You’re right… I am joining a completely new management team that just started last year. It probably is a good thing to be part of something new where lots of heads will be involved in fixing and building the business. I should look at the brighter side of things.. thanks for the talk!

I agree with above commenter. I also think at company with several thousand + employees, it really depends on the exact team you are on…I had a not so great experience at a consulting firm before while my peers had a great experience on different teams….

You sound similar to me because I was in a role for 9 months, been in my current role for 8 months, and am still looking for that place I can go next and be in long term….

I was laid off in Feb this year and was lucky to get a new role in Apr. after accepting, I read similar comments on Glassdoor and it also made me nervous. But I moved forward because no better options. It’s been so much better than I thought and no layoffs in process etc

What would u do? 3 YOE HCOL city and I have 2 potential options:
1) move to a boutique healthcare strategy consulting firm in a similar role as I have now (client facing consulting role).. 120-130 base + 20% bonus
2) a product specialist role at Meta (FB). This told role product management, it’s analytics heavy. $107k base, 10% bonus, $30K stock.

At the end of the day, TC for both is similar. As far as exit opportunities I’m not sure what is better, so looking to get other people’s opinions.
