this is part of the industry has trouble attracting talent and filling roles.
I’m all for technical questions - do a 30 minute technical interview - that’s fair - but homework assignments are cringe-worthy
Couldn't agree more.
I suspect most of the jobs that require Excel, Power BI, SQL, Qlik, Python, etc. and expect to see portfolios with a full tech stack Excel would be sufficient for like 80% of the work load.
The entry or expectations are really high for what many of these roles are actually doing. Then they complain about their not being enough talent. Ridic.
It feels like finding solutions to problems which you are not paid for
Well that's kind if cringy. This is for an analytics role or a Data Science/Engineering role that they're calling analytics?
So weird, I went through a number of analytics interviews recently and all were logical/problem solving and behavioral questions.
Only one had an Excel test and it was going to take like 3 hours. Passed on it as it feels like unpaid work where there's little reciprocity or too much down side.
Good luck to you and let us know how it goes!

No to take home assignments. On-the-spot assessments are fine

If you think you could be leaving a golden opportunity on the table, just remember interviews have very low success rates. You won’t be missing out on much.
It really depends - sometimes it's a quick analysis based on data in spreadsheet, others are more in depth.
Its a simple analysis to discover trends
Did you have a large dataset with a definition table and you EDA'd your way to finding them in Excel?
How was the process if you don't mind giving any details? :)
