What’s the going rate for a Mid-Market AE role?
Finished interviewing for an ATS role at Microsoft Wednesday. The interviewers said they were recommending me but I haven’t gotten any feedback from the recruiter. I’m at PwC S& and in consulting I always got at least a verbal yes day of or next day after interviewing. Does anyone know how long this usually takes? Do you get a verbal first or do they wait to have a contract?

I’m not from VMware but used to work at a competitor company. Based on my experience, a “couple weeks” isn’t a good sign. Either you didn’t make the cut, or they’re already down the line with other first choice prospects and unless there’s an issue ie. finalised candidate rejects the offer and they have to restart the process, it doesn’t look like you will be called up. HR is always working based on priority and lining up tons of back ups. So that’s why they will never reject you outright.
But having said that, did you follow up with any one at all regarding your role? There’s tons of things you can do, ie. email the recruiter every week to follow up, or find them on LinkedIn, find the hiring manager on LinkedIn, find anyone who you can speak to… any way in. Get yourself noticed. Worst case scenario, someone on the inside will reveal “oh we found someone already” or you could get a glance at your profile/resume and someone will feedback why you were not considered for the job/what they’re looking for in particular right now/what to work on.
Sometimes rejection is not just all “YOU”, it could also be best fit for the team profile, eg they could be looking for a more senior person to help complement the team/the team has a lot of experience and back ground in A and they want to diversify and look for someone experienced in B. So don’t take it personally, it’s just a matter of following up closely (remember the half life theory) and overall it’s about timing whether you get the job or not.
Hope this helps & good luck!
