I’d be paying the minimum on a mortgage at 2.99%.
What if the mortgage rate? If you have a low rate, I would not pay it off. You left out the most important fact for making the decision
You could put it in an HYSA and beat that rate

Investing the money is likely to payoff better long term if you have a relatively low, fixed rate mortgage.
By all measures, we are entering or already in a recession. Buying securities when they are down is a great way to accelerate your long term investment outcome.

Agree that it’s a hugely uncertain situation right now. I’m hopeful that if we do have a recession it will be mild, but the pace of the interest rate rise is unprecedented and could have all kinds of unexpected consequences.
Yes, tech was a driver of the bull market, but the stock market is not the economy and a single sector doing layoffs, especially after hiring extremely aggressively in 2021 and early 2022, isn’t necessarily a sign of things to come across the rest of the economy.
Time will tell.
You could create a bond ladder spaced 12 months or 6 months apart with the resulting maturity amount and the coupon payments sized to make that periods payments. That will cost you less than the payoff amount (since the bond rates are over 3%), and will be putting the money aside to pay it off.
Invest it. With a 2.99% rate, you can keep paying for that and with your investment earnings still manage to pay off your house early.
I think as most of here says, it depends on your current mortgage rate. < 3% invest without thinking anything else, > 5% payoff 50K of mortgage and invest rest.

Math supports investing it. If the mortgage is a big stressor and paying off would remove that stress, then pay it off.
I’d pay off the entire amount.
Wrong answer. Fixed rate at 2.99%.
