Trying to see if MBA is worth for me - I've just accepted an account director at an agency for $140K, 6 yoe, and trying to seek for MBA in order to transition into tech marketing. I heard that it's only worth it if the salary would double, but since I'm in HCOL I would hope that won't be the case. When you were trying to gauge if MBA is worth for you, what resources help you the most?
Nearing the two year mark at EY and am considering starting to prepare for MBA apps. Have had rewarding experiences with great teams so far at the firm but would love to challenge myself a bit more...
Is the AWS cloud practitioner cert meaningful to get or is it just another basic cert that’s useless?
I know Deloitte will sometimes incentivize mba interns to sign their offers by paying for the candidates second year of b-school. Is this in addition to the signing bonus or in lieu of? Thanks!
Is online MBA just as good as regular MBA?
I have a post-MBA offer with Accenture Strategy and I'm seeking advice on whether I should pursue this offer, or if I should continue to recruit for MBB (which may open more doors/opportunities). I previously worked 4 years at Deloitte Consulting. Where do people from Accenture Strategy (not Accenture Management Consulting) tend to go? Is it possible to have similar opportunities as MBB firms or do you have to work harder to get MBB-type opportunities?
Would the next couple years be a bad time to get an MBA since we’re about to hit one of the worst recessions the US has ever seen?
Anyone use an mba to pivot out of a rating agency? Or is there anyone who used to work at one and has transitioned out to a more interesting career, feel stuck rn, just looking to chat with someone who was in my spot
For those of you who attended an MBA program, what did you do when you were not in the classroom? Besides traveling, partying, studying/homework, interviewing, etc. Were you often attending events to network, getting lunch with faculty, enjoying a hobby, something else? Thanks!
Would a SHRM certification be beneficial for a consultant in organization strategy? Anyone in a similar boat?
Hello! I have a two part question: 1) is it worth it to obtain an SHRM specialty credential if I don’t have the broader SHRM certification? 2) has anyone gotten the People Analytics or Talent Acquistion credential? If so, how valuable was it from a learning perspective? Do you feel it significantly contributed to your knowledge in either area? Thank you!
Hello, A recruiter reached out to me regarding an opportunity in a tech VC/Growth Equity role for a pre-MBA candidate. I need your advice on how to find information about this type of position, what type of career projection I am anticipating and whether a pre-MBA candidate role means that person is in the process of wrapping up their MBA or candidates without an MBA degree. Thank you in advance!
I had my R2 Ross interview last week and I think it went well to really well. Today I had another Ross mba student email to connect and offer to chat if I wanted to. Do they do this for all interviewees or just people who did well? Just curious if I should take this as a positive sign re: admit. Thank you!
Hi Tax Bowlers, I'm an experienced associate (2yrs) in a Big 4 Transfer Pricing division. I have reached a point in my career where I am considering taking up a professional certification. Several colleagues recommended taking up either ACCA or CFA, however, I see little connection between these certifications and the work that I am currently doing, and what I plan to do in the future. What would you guys suggest? Would it be detrimental to my career if I did not take up any certifications?
Hi D&A 🐟, I’ve been thinking of doing a career pivot from cyber security to data science. My current role is very technical and have experience with Python, PowerShell, AWS (SAA cert), Azure (Security Engineer cert in progress), and a bunch of other cyber security related technical skills. I have experience doing basic data analysis but not at the level of a data scientist. What would you recommend I do to gain these data scientist skills? I think the end goal would be to transition from cybe
Do PE funds with portfolio teams (Vista Consukting, KKR Capstone, Bain Capital, etc etc) - hire MBA summer interns? Is this a thing?
Its MBB work really that different from the rest of the consultancies? Outside of the branding and the pay that is?
Need some advice. I take home roughly 4k/month after taxes and IRA contributions (6% 401k and 3% Roth). My rent is around 900 and I usually spend 300-400 on my credit card. Cont...
Honest question. When a client asks you a question that you need to refer to the billing attorney (assume it makes sense to do so and copy the client on convo in adding them in) are you all refraining from using the term billing attorney to clarify a role or is it pretty common to do so in client communications? Had one attorney show a sensitivity to the term but never had that happen before. Wondering if that is a common or uncommon sinsitivity?
Just hit 6 figures before 30! 🤑 (Location: Chicago) As a child of immigrants, POC & woman, this is huge!! While they were supportive, my family didn't have corporate experience/understanding to offer guidance so there were a lot of lessons I had to learn on my own. Plenty of you make tons more but just wanted a more appropriate /anonymous place to be proud & brag since that's not really a thing to do publicly!
What's the best way to prepare a business case presentation? I've been invited to a final round interview for a medical device company as a process optimization consultant. They sent me a client case study. In the case there are pain points of the client, and some numbers to analyze their workflow and recommend them to use their medical devices for process improvement. I'm not sure how to stucture it. how would you approach it?
Despite our covid numbers going up, my district is starting in-person learning. I teach first grade and am scheduled to go back Dec 8th. We are using a "concurrent" model where we will be teaching both in person and online students simultaneously. Mondays will be planning days. Is anyone else doing this? What advice do you have to do this successfully without being totally exhausted?
Accounting advisory folks — what is the type of work that you do? How much do you make for your level? What are your exit opps? Is there a benefit to being at a B4 as opposed to a regional or national firm?
Another laid off case here. Anyone moving out of US considered keeping the 401K as is instead of withdrawing? Any pros / cons to keep in mind ? Pro I see is no penalty and the fact that it'll continue to grow till I turn 65. Con is that it's a decent size amount in my case and I might need some if that cash if I don't get a job soon 🙄
In a rapidly growing practice, and perhaps 2 years from (non-equity) “partnership”. I like my team and the work I do, but I’ve only ever been a consultant and am tempted to jump to industry to try it out. Interviewing for a Fortune 20 company and applying to others. Maybe FAANG. Let’s say I’m 60% driven by comp, 40% driven by impact. Am I crazy for looking to leave? Should I just continue to ride this one-way train?
On the bench 3 weeks because rather lame project that was set to start this week was delayed. Just got pinged for a really cool project that starts 4/18 but other project now starts 4/11. Do I wait?
Feeling cash strapped - Just bought a home and feeling cash strapped. Thinking about stopping 401k contributions for a year or so to get more cash. My firm matches 25% up to 6% of my contribution, so I will also lose this. Thoughts???
First year associate here - really freaked out by FS layoffs and think I might be next. How am I supposed to find another job after 6 months?
Texas biglaw. Let’s discuss. Who is offering flexibility to WFH a few days a week going forward?
Anyone looking for Sr Copywriters? Open to moving but remote would be nice too. Open to anything really. Get me out.
I'm getting sick of my brother that keeps stringing along and hooking up with women, never settling down. He's 45 and gone through 2 divorces already (guess why?) He keeps telling me he wants to find love, then next day he brags about all the women.. the cognitive dissonance man
My wife and I would like to retire at age 50 (or earlier). We’re in our early 30s. We’ve been maxing out 401ks and IRAs for years and started contributing 20k a year into a taxable account to start filling the gap since we can’t access 401k until 55. At what point should we be reducing 401k/IRAs and redirecting to the taxable account? Otherwise our income balloons late in life. Curious how others are managing this.
How much do you spend on groceries per month and for how many people? Since COVID it’s been around $500 for just me 😬
Interview advice: I’m going into a final interview with the CIO (Information) of an asset management firm for a director of Strategic Ops role (PMO of PMOs) I only have 30 minutes. I’d appreciate input on how to succinctly prove myself here. Background, I’m an SM with a broad FS background but not exclusive to WAM.
How long notice period to current employer should be in job switching (if employee is in beach) and what are the important points one should be cognizant about while leaving the firm?
