I recently got a job offer while the salary is good they are only offering 40hours of PTO until the first year is up then they offer 80hours, is this normal? If not how should I go about asking for more? I thought it was fairly average for someone to get 10 days especially since Ive been in the industry for 7 years.

Thank you for all of your replies - I of course asked for an increase and it was changed to 10 days PTO 5 Days Sick and 9 Paid Holidays.

👏👏👏

I have 23 days of PTO and paid holidays. You should definitely negotiate for at least 10 days.

The norm in the US is 10 and increasingly becoming 15.

Agree- not competitive. Maybe in 1998 it was. I’d pull similar jobs from Indeed and see if they state 80out of the gate as a proof source

That seems extremely low for a PTO policy at a company. I get 29 days of PTO a year = 232 hours.

New employees get 19 days = 152 hours

Plus paid holidays

Super low! I get 10 days vacation, 6 sick days, and about 6 federal holidays off. So roughly 22 days; 176 hours.

Do we know if there is a sponsoring partner that oversees this benefit/ program that I could have more of a heart to heart conversation with? Not getting too far with the general email box and admin contact. From the benefit policy documentation, my understanding is that EY reimburses employees for surrogacy / adoption related expenses up to $50k lifetime. However, anything related to IVF or medical procedures has to go through insurance (also limited to $50k lifetime benefit). Continued…

Anyone else find it INSANE that PTO does not count towards your billable hour requirement. If you take a week off (40 hours), you’re really not getting paid time off if you have to make up all of that billable time before the end of the year.

Am I missing something or is that just absurd?

Any advice for asking to work from home?
I started my job just over a month ago and the one day a week I work from home I absolutely love. I have an hour commute to the office all other days and I'd love to even just get one more day at home. My manager is not aware of my adhd and I have crippling fear and shame around it so I'd rather not tell him. The office environment I'm in is honestly any neuroduvergent's nightmare. I know it's probably wrong to not tell him but I don't want any judgement.

I’m seeking a promotion from L2 to L3 by EOQ1 2023. I’ve set the expectation over the past year and my manager keeps saying “within the next year,” “within the next year.” By the next promotion cycle, I will have been in this role for a year and a half. I am the most junior on my team but I feel I’m consistently delivering better and faster than my senior colleagues. Not to mention my RSUs are drowning and I’m the most tenured at the company on my team. Tips on navigating this?

Do I push it any further?

Received an offer verbally from a company that is a big jump in salary from where I am now. I negotiated 10K extra in base, and 5K extra in bonus. Currently making 125K base, 30K bonus. They are now offering 175K base 20K bonus. They also declined my negotiation for sign on bonus to make up for what I’m leaving on the table by exiting my current firm. Think I should push it any further? I am ready to accept it personally.

When requesting a raise, has an employer ever asked you for the cost of living?
