I recently got a puppy but have avoided telling people at work out of fear they will assume I’m not really working when I’m WFH if I have a puppy. Am I being irrational?

Go ahead and share. Having a pet isn't the issue - making it clear that you are focused on work with it there is what's important. My assistant got a cat this year. It annoys me when I see it climbing over her keyboard during virtual meetings or hear her interacting with it while we are in a call. Of course things happen (e.g., my GC had to run out of a virtual meeting to chase after her dog when it got loose) and people are generally understanding. But I think the issue only comes if you frequently seem distracted from your work by your pet. Otherwise, enjoy your new fur baby!

Yes. I have two 5 month old puppies. People know I’m working because the see the workflow. What the question is my judgment in getting two puppies at the same time.

funny

Oh yeah. That’a crazy.

Yes.

Yes! But I felt the same way. I got a puppy about a month before starting a new job and during my welcome call with my attorneys, he took the potty bells by the door and ran around the apartment with them so I had no choice but to explain I had a 4m old puppy. I was nervous about my attorneys thinking I was not focused, until one of them said they had to put their dog down the week before and to enjoy every minute with the puppy. Most people are understanding (but we’re also in law, so there’s always someone who ruins it🤷🏻‍♀️)

Yes

Lighten up. It’s just a job. If they judge you for getting a puppy, leave.

Yes

I finally got diagnosed with ADD, inattentive type, at 28 years old. I’ve known I had depression and anxiety for years, but the symptoms and treatment never added up. It took WFH in a pandemic to realize maybe I had ADD, and still months of being dismissed and made to feel like I was crazy before I found a doctor to administer the MMPI. I feel validated, finally, but I can’t help feeling grief too over so much lost potential and unnecessary failure, especially in law school and my career.

My agency has officially switched to remote working. We can use the office as needed if we want, for a place to work or meet, will monitor the offices use for the next several months to see if we even still need an office of that size. I don’t even know why to do with myself now, ha. I like dressing up — I normally wore heels every day. I’ve been in joggers & leggings everyday for wfh -- is that me now?
