I recently got a role as an internal strategy consultant in a company. Ultimately I would love to get a role in either big 4 or boutique firms in the future. How should I set myself up to do that while in this role

Currently working at T2 consulting firm in Aus and looking to break into the industry in the US (pref NYC/SF/Chicago/Boston). Have citizenship but am concerned my credentials / degree (high GPA, top Aus uni but nothing like top US) won’t carry enough weight to get me into a similar role. Anyone have advice / tips / etc?

I have severe (diagnosed) social anxiety. The pandemic has certainly not helped it. I’ve been casually looking for a new role but I always stop myself because the idea of interviewing is terrifying. I passed the HR screening for a position I’m very interested in, but the company is notorious for difficult interviews. I feel sick about it. I try to prepare and completely blank. I feel like I can’t even articulate what I do right now. How the hell do I get around this?

How long in a new company (who is open to this type of thing) do you express your interest in a lateral move to a different role/dept?

Background: I work in marketing but ultimately want to move into a Scrum Master type role (recently got my PSM-I). I’m starting at a new company next week that’s open to people moving internally to where they want to be, but obviously don’t want to be flakey to what they hired me for. I quit my previous job approximately 5-6 months ago due to toxic culture and being pressured to commit fraud… I fear hiring managers see that I’ve been out of work for this time and may assume I was fired or laid off. Additionally I’ve had a couple interviews where company “X” interviewers have commented on this and in an effort to not bad mouth my previous employer I’m stuck with a generic answer like I want to take my career to the next level with Company “X.” Any thoughts/advice?

Having worked with energy now for a decade, I find myself enjoying the craziness of it all: You're always two decisions (in Moscow or Riyadh) away from prices halving or doubling. War or no war is quite often a sensitivity, and adoption of EVs/renewables/biofuels will be between X and 10X. Find it hard to imagine doing strategy work in the less volatile/crazy domains - what could be more exciting than this 😋

I was talking with a PM for one of our clients, really nice guy. He used to be one of the big heads with Bear Sterns and he talked about the troubles in 2008. His 401k was wiped and he lost his job. Considering making a move from big 4 business consulting to a smaller (~200 people) digital transforation consulting firm in CA in that is hiring for specific staff augmentation role at one of their clients which is an $800 mil revenue and rapidly growing SaaS company. I know I would enjoy this new role but pay is the same although it is fully remote (my current role is defeintly not and I don't particularly enjoy the work/travel). Wondering what my benefits and risks are if making this move.
