I recently got an offer from Microsoft and I was wondering if I can ask for a MacBook for work as it makes more sense for the kind of work I’m going to be doing. Is this even possible?

Contrary to popular belief some people that work at Microsoft have macs and vice versa, depends on the team and what work they’re doing. Just ask!

Hey VMware fam! Yea I’ve got one foot out the door 😬

One option is to run MacOS in VMW Workstation 🤷‍♂️

If you role is client facing , there is no way you will get the MacBook. I am based in Germany and I did a good fight to get the MacBook but all went in vain. Because I am customer facing and in Germany they don’t even procure MacBook infact they checked the inventory in UK too. But the MacBook was not available neither they wanted to procure it for me :(
However , Microsoft has their BYOd Policy I.e bring your own device . So you can also use your own personal MacBook. I used my personal MacBook for first couple of months and I was the alien in the office. And the reason I was asking for mac I never had windows neither personally or professionally neither used one.

like

Same - in a customer role but the surface tablets and notebooks on offer are terrible. I’m going to BYO MacBook as I have never used windows platform and on the whole the windows and teams experience on surface is not productive for me.

like

Yes, doesn’t hurt to ask.

I heard designers are the only one who get that option. Most people get Lenovo’s. Just ask your HM/OA.

like

It makes sense for designers! I work on tech stack that makes more sense to be on Linux or Mac so I might just ask my HM

Most msft designers I know use a mac for exactly the reasons you mentioned. Bot sure if they are BYO or not

We do have choice beyond surface- for example I use a lenovo.

like

Have you ever used WSL? I much prefer it over my Mac for mixed environments.

That is what I would’ve to use if they don’t provide me a Mac 🤞

I am currently with a Partner firm and have been offered a 1-year contract with a client that I am very excited about. The start date is a few weeks before the 2021R1 certification exams are released. If I end up coming back to the Partner side as a Consultant after more than a year, would my new Company be required to pay for my re-certifications? Thanks in advance for any insight.

When should I give a new client a heads up that I will take time off for mat leave? I started with this client about a month ago. There’s no SOW, and it’s a few hours a week for random projects. I didn’t tell them I was pregnant at the time we started. My plan is to work until the end of the year, and then take time off. When is the best time to let them know? Asap? A month before? I don’t care about picking things up once I’m back but I’d like to be courteous.
