I recently interviewed with a company and they asked me “are we the only company you are currently interviewing with or are you actively looking and interviewing with other companies as well?” How do you all go about answering this question? I thought it was a super weird question and it caught me off guard.

Hiring manager here. This is a very common question.

They are asking to determine how quickly they should move with you and the likelihood that someone else is going to make you an offer first.

I would answer that you are actively looking and interviewing.

I say I'm actively interviewing.

Valid question. Transparency is important. Be honest in your response.

I found a company I was really excited about working at. I applied for the job and went through 5 rounds of interviews. At the end they said I was OVER qualified and they want me for a different position higher up in the company. I was super excited they then had me go through 5 more rounds, 3/5 people were the same. The interviews mostly went "didn't you get the job, I highly recommend you? I'll just put you down as a 10". After those were done they told me I was UNDER qualified. Can't win!

Just starting to look for a new role. After 16 years in the Video Conferencing / Unified Communications industry, I’m looking for a change.

I have been out of the job hunt scene for years. Are there some reputable recruiters/agencies to give my resume to start the process? I just had my resume and LinkedIn professionally re-worked, as I have been in a stable job for 9+ years.

Any advice from recruiters would be great!

There aren't many places I can speak openly about this, but Fishbowl has been a solid refuge and resource. After ~6 months of interviewing, managed to exit MBB. Moving to Europe for a strategy and ops role at FAANG. Hopefully the new role will be more enjoyable and sustainable. Sharing this here because I used to see posts like this and never thought it could happen for me - but it did. It gets better, folks. Just keep swimming.

Sounds like I'm going to be induced early because of some high blood pressure spikes. Any advice / words of wisdom? While I like that I'll "know" the date, I'm upset with the idea of forcing things along (and equating it to a longer labor, higher c potential, sitting in the hospital in a mask for forever, etc). I had my first 4 years ago and labored at home for a long time - we were in the hospital for 2hrs tops before she was born. I just imagined it would be that type of experience again...

Hi all, any advice on combatting interview fatigue? Been on the job hunt 5+ months and low morale is kicking in. Interviewed for a company (alongside other companies) that took me to the final stage (total process was 2 interviews, take-home project, 1 final interview— not counting one last call with the founders) but my last interview wasn’t my finest (I could sense it) and received a rejection email a few days later. I feel like fatigue played a part in not being able to give my all to the end

How do you make your tradeshow booths inviting and interesting on a shoestring budget? We have a nice, nothing out of the norm, backdrop, our set up is properly branded.

Swag is hard to justify budget for, so we have pens and cool telescopic flashlights we give to people who fit our ideal customer profile or at least have a meaningful interaction with us.

Lastly, I bring Moonpies ... they seem to be different enough from what everyone else offers.

Hi, I need your advise… I see lots of jobs as a Manager and lots of people getting hired with great salaries not much skills, however when I apply in getting automatic rejected emails and interviews that go nowhere. I think I’m the interviews they think I am lying of all what I do and current responsibilities and high number of direct reports. Should I tone down on my work and make my experience and actual job seem less than what I do to get interviews and more chances at a good opportunity?
